Hybrid Expressivity Index

"It's not exactly perfect, but what system is?  I hope future historians and scientists judge me knowing we needed to make this quick and dirty."  ~Doctor Beryl Benjamin   The Hybrid Expressivity index charts exactly how much an individual has been hybridized with Uplifts. The Index is mostly inexact, partially because of the number of individuals who have had extensive/ongoing genetic modification.   The HEI ranges from 0 to 8, where 0 is a baseline human and 8 is a full genetic uplift. Interestingly even genetic uplifts should be considered hybrids, due to the large amount of human genetics and neuroarchitecture needed to uplift them. "Hybrid" is therefore a social convention denoting the spectrum between baseline human and genetic uplift.     HEI-0: Baseline human. Genetic augmentation, if present, is usually to counteract congenital diseases or to amplify current desirable genes. Example: Admiral Jeorge Conway       HEI-1: Modified human, 0-10% alteration to genetic code. Expressed most often as cosmetic changes or for specific advantages, e.g. cat-like eyes for night vision. HEI-1s are not particularly numerous and often possess genetic material from multiple non-human sources. Example: Janet Dempsey       HEI-2: Human "F2" hybrid, 10-25% alteration to genetic code. May be the offspring of a HEI-4 or higher hybrid with a HEI-0, or was subject to in vitro augmentation to suppress non-human genes. Expressed most often as a baseline human with animal ears, tail, eyes, and/or dentition. Example: Admiral Pacifica Planetside       HEI-3: Advanced human hybrid, 25-50% alteration to genetic code. Usually these are expressed as an HEI-2 or HEI-4, but have undergone significant genetic alteration after birth. Most incorporate genes from other animal sources. Example: LUX       HEI-4: "F1" hybrid, 50% alteration to genetic code. Almost exclusively the offspring of a HEI-8 with a HEI-0. Expressed most often as a perfect fusion of human and animal. Most commonly depicted hybrid. Example: Captain Nelly Carronade       HEI-5: Advanced uplift hybrid, 50-75% alteration to genetic code. Usually these are expressed as an HEI-4 or HEI-6, but have undergone significant genetic alteration after birth. Most incorporate genes from other animal sources. Example: Li Su       HEI-6: Uplift "F2" hybrid, 75-90% alteration to genetic code. May be the offspring of a HEI-4 or higher hybrid with a HEI-8, or was subject to in vitro augmentation to suppress human genes. Expressed most often as a bipedal animal, often with opposable thumbs but few other human traits. Example: Barghest       HEI-7: Modified uplift, 0-10% alteration to genetic code. Usually these uplifts are completely indistinguishable from an HEI-8; their alterations are almost always neural and are usually intelligence augmentations. Example: Admiral Tanner       HEI-8: Genetically uplifted animal. Genetic augmentation, if present, is usually to counteract congenital diseases or to amplify current desirable genes. Example: Admiral Sai Chowdhury
