Baseline

"The human form is a patchwork, yes, but with it comes a certain amount of- dare I say it- hybrid vigor. Over the years we've incorporated so many changes, adjustments, and other tweaks that the average human of the past would just gasp at in wonder. While this does lead to some unfortunate side effects, one of the greatest advantages is this: we can incorporate almost anything into the basic human form. Baselines are something of a tabula rasa, on which great things may be written." -Doctor Beryl Benjamin   Calling a human a baseline is doing an injustice to the previous few centuries of optimization. A baseline human is the product of concerted genetic effort, enhanced to be smarter and to live longer than any that have come before. The vast majority of baselines striking out into the stars also possess additional genetic enhancements to improve their capabilities.   Examples: Most humans   Ability Bonuses: Willpower +d2, Alertness +d2   Skill Bonuses: Guns +d2, Knowledge +d2, Athletics +d2   Base movement: 15 feet   Additional Advantages:
  • Talented: d4
This trait may be split into two different versions of Talented or one, depending on the character’s choice.
  • Transhuman: d4
The character adds 4 to their maximum augmentation tolerance. They may start with 4 Rating points worth of cybernetic or bioware augmentations for free, or receive a commensurate discount for more expensive upgrades.
Optional Species Disadvantages:
  • Common as Dirt: d4
Most people don’t view being a baseline as such a bad thing, but in Neo-Humanity there may be a bit of a small stigma. In the NEB, baselines are considered little better than the unwashed masses. Overlooked as nothing special throughout space, it may sometimes be a struggle to win jobs over the more exotic. This is primarily a roleplaying trait, but at the DM’s discretion may add the Trait to the difficulty of some interactions.
