Storm Eel

by Joana Rita Gomes
The stormeel is a massive eel with special organs in its spine that allow it to charge massive amounts of electricity in its body and discharge it at its prey. It is an apex predator, and hunts creatures as large as cloud whales as it migrates. Stormeels are largely solitary creatures, but travel along with and gather at low pressure weather systems like thunderstorms and hurricanes to seek mates.   Every sailor knows to avoid any storm with more bolts of lightning than rumbles of thunder, as this is a clear sign that a stormeel is flying through it. While islands are safe from stormeels, any ships carrying large amounts of weapons and ammunition should beware them, as stormeels often confuse the magnetic fields of large quantities of iron for mates or competitors, and often attack such ships.   While hunting stormeels is so dangerous as to be unheard of, their bodies contain valuable reagents if one is lucky enough to happen upon the corpse of one. The meat of a stormeel is rumored to have mystical properties, their spinal fluid is prized for its incredible magical potency, and a stormeel's hide, if prepared correctly, is famously immune to electricity.
