The Ancient World

The Primordial World

"Before the worlds broke apart, there existed a single reality, unified and majestic, where stars were born from the dreams of gods, and peoples walked together under the eternal skies."
— Ancient Proverb
The Ancient World represents a bygone era when the universe was a single vast kingdom shaped by the hands of the primordial gods. This mythical age precedes the fragmentation of existence into eight distinct realms. From divine creation to the Great Separation, the Ancient World was a place of grandeur, conflict, and evolution, where deities and mortals shaped the fragile balance of their shared reality.

Cosmic Origins

In the beginning, absolute emptiness reigned. From this eternal abyss were born two primordial forces : Aenor, the incarnation of creation and order, and Nyssara, the avatar of destruction and chaos.   Aenor, driven by an insatiable thirst to give form to the void, created the first elements : light, stars, and the first fragments of life. Nyssara, fascinated by this creation but unable to find permanence in it, reduced it to nothingness to return the void. Their endless struggle shaped the foundations of the universe : a cosmos vibrating with energy, yet unstable.

The Great Events of the Ancient World

Creation and the Primordial Peoples

Humans, imperfect but endowed with free will, were the first creatures to touch the earth of this world. Then came the primordial behemoths, colossal entities tasked with protecting the fundamental elements.   However, perfection was not of this world : the behemoths were corrupted by their power, and humans fell into tearing quarrels. These fractures marked the beginning of conflicts that would shape the fate of the Ancient World.

The Emergence of the Elemental Gods

Aenor, weakened by millennia of struggle, called upon his ultimate power. In a sacrificial act, he fragmented his essence to create eight elemental deities : Pyraël (Fire), Thalasséa (Water), Gaëdras (Earth), Aëryon (Air), Fulgaris (Lightning), Cryos (Ice), Aethos (Gravity), and Sylvana (Nature). Each embodied a fundamental force of the world, tasked with restoring order.

The Great Divine War

The early ages of the Ancient World were marked by titanic conflicts between Nyssara and the elemental gods. These battles left indelible marks on the world : deserts of glass, petrified forests, and valleys sparkling with magical crystals. Despite their power, the gods could not defeat Nyssara. They united their forces to seal her in the Limbs, a realm beyond all creation. The final battle, known as the Elemental Apex, cost the gods part of their divine essence. This clash shook the very foundations of the world and marked the end of the First Ages.   From this war came two new peoples : the Elves, shaped by Sylvana to guard the reborn nature, and the dwarves, crafted by Gaëdras to rebuild the fractured lands. Together, they represented a new chapter in the world’s fragile balance.

The War of the Gods

Over time, the eight gods began to conflict with each other, each seeking to impose its influence. It was a time of chaos where the Earth was torn asunder, peoples lived in fear of divine confrontations, and entire civilizations were annihilated.

The Great Separation

The ultimate solution to the chaos was the division of the Ancient World. Under the wisdom of a mortal blessed by Sylvana, the gods agreed to fragment the universe into eight distinct realms. Each realm was shaped according to the essence of its ruling god : from the frozen lands of Cryos to the lush forests of Sylvana. This separation eased divine conflicts but shattered the unity of the world, marking the end of the Ancient World.   Each world, shaped by its god, became an extension of its essence. The very nature of these lands and their inhabitants was influenced by the ideals, desires and ambitions of the deities who ruled them. Although they were separated, the worlds remained connected by mystical passages, breaches, which preserved a fragile balance between them.

The Eight Worlds

The World of Flame (Ruled by Pyrael)

A world of erupting volcanoes, burning deserts and forests of fire. The world is dominated by a society of warriors and blacksmiths, who live in a perpetual quest for glory and perfection. The flames are their life and their legacy. Here, passion and ambition are the driving forces of the company.

The Ocean World (Ruled by Thalasséa)

Lush islands populate the horizon, some covered in rainforests, while others are home to sparkling coral cities beneath crystal clear waters. The seas are inhabited by gigantic and mysterious sea creatures, while palaces of pearls and mother-of-pearl rise from the abyss.

The World of Air (Ruled by Aëryon)

A world suspended in the sky, where vast floating islands are connected by wind bridges. The inhabitants live in aerial cities, moving in harmony with the air currents. Their society is based on freedom and adaptability, and the wisest are those who can navigate the storms.

The Earth World (Led by Gaëdras)

A stable world, where imposing mountains and expanses of fine sand dominate. The inhabitants are builders and protectors, but often stuck in their traditions. The world is a bastion of resistance against change.

The World of Lightning (Led by Fulgaris)

A world struck by eternal storms. Lightning strikes constantly, and society is built around the idea of redemption through war and confrontation. The inhabitants are warriors, searching for meaning through battles. Lightning is synonymous with strength and purification.

The World of Ice (Ruled by Cryos)

A cold and inhospitable world, where winter reigns supreme. The inhabitants are scholars and artisans, constantly perfecting their technology. The cities are masterpieces of technology and engineering where metal and steam combine with frost and crystal. The world is silent and austere, but reflection and the pillar of existence.

The Realm of Gravity (Ruled by Aethos)

A strange world where the laws of gravity are modulated at will. The inhabitants have developed a civilization that exploits physical laws to create architectural and technological marvels. But, in this world, conflicts are often caused by the oppression of power and the absence of freedom.

The World of Nature (Led by Sylvana)

A verdant world, a lush world of endless forests, plains and jungles. The creatures of this world are in perfect harmony with nature. The inhabitants, deeply connected to the land, protect every aspect of life and the natural balance. Sylvana embodies the role of guardian of the cycles of life and death.

Legacy of the Ancient World

Today, the Ancient World is nothing more than a legend to the inhabitants of the shattered realms. It is seen as a lost golden age, a warning about the consequences of conflict, and an aspiration to reclaim the original harmony. Echoes of this age are found in the rites, myths, and remnants that still dot the realms.
