Lesser Shrine of Alene (Balmore)

"But even in the years leading up to its destruction magic students still visited the Astryan Shrine at least once within their lifetimes as it was a crucial stage of the magic process; the only other way to gain the ability to use magic was to contact the goddess through some other means, such as intense prayer or a lesser shrine. These lesser shrines worked less often, but could be found more easily; after the main shrine's destruction, these became the main way to gain magic as a Sorcerer, and these were how Morgann had gained her powers. She’d visited the Lesser Shrine at Balmore, a shrine in Middenvale."   A secondary shrine to Alene, the Balmore shrine can be found in the country of Middenvale. Originally, it held little significance to anyone who was willing to make a pilgrimage to Astrya, but after the Primary Astryan shrine was destroyed, it become more often used.

Purpose / Function

The shrines of Alene exist in order to serve as a pilgrimage for those learning magic to take in order to show dedication and gain through this the power they wished to have. While the main Shrine in Astrya held this purpose mainly, the lesser shrines such as this one in Balmore also did the same job. These lesser shrines worked less often, but could be found more easily; after the main shrine's destruction, these became the main way to gain magic as a Sorcerer.

Architecture

The shrine was built with Gothic Architecture, using typical qualities of this style such as high, arched ceilings, thick, white stone walls and large glass windows. The main shrine itself is a somewhat large, rectangular room with the wall opposite the large wooden doors being curved and holding the shrine itself, an altar with a large coloured glass window above it depicting the beauty of magic itself. Below the shrine, the basement holds bunkhouses for the wanderers of magic's Balmore subgroup and any other pilgrims staying there to learn.
