The Enneagram Alliance

The Alliance was controlled by a council of nine of the most wise and powerful magic users, called The High Sages. These individuals controlled the direction of the Alliance and had vital roles in overseeing the organisations's goals. One level below these were the Sages, which was the highest rank in the Alliance without being elected one of the council. To become a Sage was to demonstrate immense wisdom and understanding of the magic used, as well as a strong ability in its use.

[This history is outdated]   The group that would later become the Enneagram Alliance was founded in 1415 in France, 34 years into the Hundred Years War. In prior cnoflicts, magic users had always refrained from fighting, so as to preserve the masquerade, but also to be in line with the codes of chivalry, as it would be unfair to the regular human soldiers. However, as the war became longer and longer, a minority of mages of both sides had begun to take part in the fighting, and had even been fighting one another. The catalyst for this was the the Battle of Agincourt, where a very large number of the French nobility were killed, and the English King Henry V ordered the massacre of most of their French prisoners. This sparked a wave of retirbution from French mages, which equally sparked English mages to fight back. Due to the further chaos and potential breaks in the masquarade this could cause, a collection of French and English mages formed the group to maintain relations between English and French magical communities, so as to ensure no more fighting would occur.   This group continued to operate as a mediator between English and French mages until the end of the war. However, instead of disbanding, the group decided that the disunity of magic users throughout Europe would continue to be a problem, and, their own cause being so successful, they should continue to expand their efforts. So, the group stayed together, and tried to expand their influence. In time, their aims expanded to general mediation of the magical world, and their influence and power grew. Over centuries they expanded their influence throughout Europe, then the world, competing, negotiating, and merging with other magical organisations, until finally, they and a host of other organisations merged together to form The Enneagram Alliance.   The Alliance would go on to manage the magical world for several centuries, growing a distinct internal culture and identity, and shaping the magical world as it went. Working together, they made many advancements in magical study, successfully preserved the masquerade, and reined in the more chaotic and destructive magic users and creatures of the world. In a landmark moment that enshrined their position as the primary organisation in the magical world, they created a pocket dimension for their sear of power, called Vagus Library.   The Alliance had to deal with many opponents to magic during its time. Various inquisitions and magic hunting organisations had existed before its inception, and they were the organisation's main rivals throughout most of its history. However, in time, the Alliance beat these foes, or simply outlived them. In the modern day, it continued its original role by working to keep magic out of the various wars that ocurred throughout the world. However, some still slipped through the cracks, especially in the world wars. These occasional exposures could be easily covered up, but one particular case in World War Two was cleaned up poorly, and the affected soldiers were shocked and appalled at what they had seen. These soldiers would later come together to form ORCHESTRA.   ORCHESTRA would ultimately prove to be the Alliance's destroyer. Initally, it was just another hunting organisation the Alliance fought with, eventually believing they had defeated it in the late 1960's. However, ORCHESTRA lived on, and slowly built itself up throughout the Cold War. Eventually, it became powerful enough to fight the Alliance directly, and launched the Unseen War in 2002. This war continued for 14 years, and as time went on, the Alliance lost ground to ORCHESTRA's ruthlessness and unique anti-magic technology. Yet, the Alliance believed they could not be defeated, veteran as they were, and believed ORCHESTRA could never attack Vagus Library, so they would always be able to fight. However, in 2015, ORCHESTRA enacted Operation White Blood, invading Vagus Library. They destroyed most of the Alliance's artefacts, killed most of the High Sages, and finally detonated a nuke at the centre, destroying the Library and collapsing the pocket dimension it was contained in.   This act shattered the Alliance, and ultimately destroyed it. The Enneagram Alliance had lost the war, and so ORCHESTRA became the dominant power in the magical world, seeking only to destroy it. With the Alliance gone, the rest of its members scattered and went into hiding, or were picked off by ORCHESTRA.

The Alliance was destroyed by ORCA after Operation White Blood in 2015. Many high-ranking members were killed, including nearly all the High Sages, were killed in this event and Vagus Library was destroyed. This annihilated the physical, organisational and leadership core of the Alliance, preventing it from being able to organise itself or fight ORCA anymore. Its remaining members recognised this and knew that they could not continue, so fled into hiding.
