Session 136: When Last We Met 9/7/25

General Summary

When last we met, The party were in the middle of arranging a meeting with the ferrymen, an infamous group of assassins. Trying to find information on a particular assassin who ended the life of Mistral's mother 20+ years ago. After several failed attempts, Mistral finds an innkeeper "In the know" at the Weary Falcon Inn. He takes the coin given to Mistral by a young member of their group several months prior. The innkeeper brings them up to a room and doesn't seem to charge them for their stay.

While in the room Vandread casts identify on the necklace taken off Cornelius, revealing it contains blod stones. Magical items that can show the location of people of a particular bloodline at all times. This opens up wicked possibilities in both Vandread and Mistral's minds. Soon after a knock is heard at the door, Vandread sends his steel defender to answer it and finds a dour, hooded man who enters and gets down to business, asking who it is they want killed.

Mistral begins explaining his plight to the chagrin of this stranger who tells him that just giving out information on one of their operatives who is likely retired or dead. Mistral explains he is a descendent of the one who hired said operative and would like to have a word with him. The stranger says he will see if he can even procure this information from his group. He takes his leave and says they will hear from him again soon.

Soon after another knock is heard on the door. This time it is the diminuitive former pirate Fuscilli, chastising the party for what they did to him and obsessing over stalking them to strike back. The party simply laugh this off and mock him for all the effort he put into finding them instead of getting on with his life .He threatens legal action but the party relay that he'd be in just as much trouble. Eventually the two parties come to an agreement, If Fuscilli is willing to let bygones be bygones, they will hire him on as their spymaster in Ailec - However, first he is tasked with finding and bringing back two animals as a test of loyalty and ingenuity - a black fox, and then a 4 toed goose with one pink feather. Fuscilli reluctantly agrees to this and they have a possible new ally.

From there, they hear no further communication from the mysterious stranger. Until about 3 days later one of their chambermaids passes them a note that was left with her for them. They open it and find a handwritten note saying

Volgot 1356

The poisoner

The knife

The weeping man

wolfsbane

These words are seemingly meaningless to the party apart from mentioning poison, the thing used to end Mistral's mother's life. Vandread inspects the paper and finds it coated in some type of satin liquid, Mistral concludes maybe it has a secret message revealed by heat or moisture. Vandread holds th note up near the heat of a torch flame. Sure enough this does reveal additional words next to the text.

Revealing these appear to be not just words, but names. Their only living lead being the weeping man and the country he's currently residing, The party set sail for Callisto. 5 days later they arrive in Romaia's home country, deciding to visit her hometown of Virro to start their investigation.

The party go into full detective mode as Vandread deduces the man they're looking for will likely be exceedingly wealthy though not of noble birth and will be an outsider to the country. Romaia relays that the wealthiest citizens of the country build these sprawling villas inland in the shadows of the Vulmaro and Chareau mountains, this would be likely where they would find him. They move about the port town trying to gather information on anyone matching these descriptors. After about a week of investigation and several hundred gold pieces spent, they hear word of someone who fits this criteria - A norn by the name of Nils who moved to Callisto a decade ago and built his own sprawling manor along the bank of the Senofonte river, He is also highly reclusive but those who have seen him put his age around where this assassin would be by now.

With this information, the party board their airship and sail north over the Chareau mountains and get within a mile or so of Nils' manor. From there, Mistral has invisibility cast on him by Vandread and he flies down to the house to do reconnaissance. He finds a beautiful Callistan villa with lots of land and suspiciously, 4 very strong looking construct guards keeping watch at the two entrances of the manor. Mistral flies closer to try and peer into the windows, getting a layout of some of the rooms in the manor as well as a fleeting glimpse of the man himself, seated with his back to Mistral playing a piano. Mistral flies back before his invisibility wears off and relays all he learned with Vandread and Romaia, now the trio have to make a plan of infiltration to confront whom they reasonably think is The Weeping Man.

Fuscilli - A weasly little fellow the party left for dead off the coast of Volgot. He returned to stalk the party and ended up getting a job from them

Mysterious Stranger - A representative of the Ferrymen, came to receive info on a potential target but instead was asked to identify one of their assassins.

  • Party spent a week finding clues and investigating
  • Party learns of a man named Nils living inland who fits the description
  • Party sails to the location of Nils' Villa
  • MIstral does reconnaissance on the villa
  • Mistral relays what he learns and the party make a plan
