Session 130: When Last We Met 6/29/25

When last we met, the party were engaged in a fierce battle with The King in Yellow. The eldritch foe from beyond the stars. The party kept up their attacks as best they could. But the tide of battle seemed to be turning against them. Several party members had gone down and two of their NPC allies had succumbed to death. Romaia is brought down by the king's Royal gaze but Mistral saves her from death's door. Vandread does the same for Ukko who is brought back from the brink.

All the while Mistral keeps urging the rest of the party to put distance between themselves and the king in Yellow. With Mistral having very chaotic ideas, they all abide by his word and spread out over the battlefield. In the meantime, They manage to down the last of the "Broken Children" entities plaguing members of the party. Only to have Hastur cast it once again. With a new Broken Child appearing and pursuing Celeste. The King in Yellow disintegrates Vandread's steel defender in his hands with his Touch of the Yellow King ability.

With that, Mistral puts into action his daring, desperate, and foolhardy plan. He pulls out the Staff of Magi that they "Acquired" from the Order of the Perpetual Shroud. A staff Charged with multiple spells and magical energy. A very handy item. But, No one on the battlefield could have predicted what Mistral would do next....

Staff in hand, He floats over to the King in Yellow, Lands on the ground 10 feet behind him and proceeds to snap the staff in two which creates a bomb of magical energy powerful enough to destroy the King in Yellow and send his essence back to the Far Realm. However, the blast manages to kill Mistral outright as well. The rest of the party are thrown backwards and have the wind knocked out of them. But as they recover they witness The King in Yellow disappearing from this world forever. Collecting themselves, They rush to help their fallen allies. Celeste casts Revivify on Mistral who awakens and returns to the land of the Living. Then she does the same thing to Hakim. She tosses a diamond to Vandread who proceeds to work his magic on Emrys, Bringing her back from death as well.

As they heal and regroup, Hakim brings up a very salient point. With the King in Yellow gone, The country of Sunwilde is leaderless. Strife and conflict could emerge from the power vacuum. At this, Nyarlathotep, The Outer god who's been both friend and foil throughout their journey appears and offers for he himself to take the throne. He would rule over subjects like he desires. And The party can have their peace and be spared decades of instability in the region.


The party outright refuses this and Nyarlathotep takes his leave. Leaving them to their own problems. After he departs a thought comes across pretty much every member of the party. Hakim is a citizen of this land. He knows it and its people and he is liked by the people. The party suggests Hakim ascend the throne to which he humbly declines. Saying he is a peacekeeper and holy man. Not a king. To which the party unanimously says those are the best hallmarks of a ruler. Someone who does not want to rule.

He reluctantly says that he and the remainder of his Muharib can act as caretakers and stewards over the country, Until this matter can be sorted out properly. With that, The party emerges from the palace back out into the City of Olorun. They find the majority of their allies made it out alive. Including close friends. The populace are recovering from having their minds taken over and the physical damage they sustained in the battle for Olorun.

The party joins in and expends the last of their spell slots to administer healing of the wounded and stabilization of the dying in Vandread's case. With more serious matters looming on the horizon, The party take a moment to at least bask in their victory. They have won. They defeated a great evil that befell the lands. Their journey has come full circle from fledgling adventurers to Local celebrities, To Heroes of the realm. To now masters of the World. Able to face down gods, demon lords and other powerful entities. Beings at the apex of their power and forces to be reckoned with on a world-altering scale.
