Balbanese (Common)

Balbanese is a popular trade tongue adapted from a mixture of dozens of old Halfling and Human languages, now spoken by anyone worthy of being considered an adventurer. Many isolated groups, such as the Tabaxi, do not speak this language and likely never will considering their desire to remain within the bounds of their jungle homes, but for everyone willing to step out into the wilds beyond almost always learns this language first. Because of how widely Balbanese is spoken, it can be written in a variety of different scripts, depending on where you are reading it. The Humans, Halflings and Gnomes write Balbanese with a curvy ink script on a kind of paper made from jungle leaves or reeds, Dwarves carve it into limestone tablets in rigid lettering, and Dragonborn write it using characters they carve with their claws. For this reason, though Balbanese may be easy to speak, it can be more difficult to read.
