Tsé'nagahi ([tsʰe˥ ʔ na˩ka˩hi˩])
A tsé'nagahi, or dragon tortoise, is a type of lesser dragon that lives in arid climates and is associated with the Elemental Plane of Earth. It resembles a giant tortoise, but with dragonlike facial features and claws emerging from its domed shell. These shells are as hard as granite and several feet thick; the shell of a dead ancient tsé'nagahi may be mistaken for an ancient rock formation, and is likely to last in the same location for hundreds, if not thousands, of years before eroding.
The tsé'nagahi is often confused in legend with its aquatic counterpart, the Dragon Turtle. Both have a body size, lifespan, general intelligence, and innate magical affinity comparable with that of true dragons, and both tend to behave peacefully around most humanoids unless provoked. The primary difference between the two is that of elemental affinity. While dragon turtles are steam-breathing, marine-dwelling creatures, tsé'nagahim burrow through dirt at incredible speed, and breathe clouds of rapidly swirling sand to blind and choke any adversaries that cross them.
Tsé'nagahim are primarily residents of the Lands of Ash. In recent years, the occasional tsé'nagahi has made a home in the northern groves of the Western Woods. A corrupted tsé'nagahi famously terrorized the Tontuwa Grove in Y1099 before it was slain by Ang'huran Rangatir'krovo.
