Sending Stone

A sending stone is a magical communications device that allows its holder to communicate verbally across a plane, regardless of distance. Sending Stones are created in pairs, with each half of a pair able to communicate only with the other paired stone.

Sending stones are not to be confused with the similar Stone of Far Speech, which allows a single casting of the evocation spell Sending per day to any target.

To manufacture a sending stone, an artificer must find two stones of identical size and mineral composition that sit in the same position relative to their ley line, even before putting said stones through the requisite arcane rituals to allow a permanent communicative link. Because of this, sending stones remain expensive to manufacture, and therefore relatively uncommon among the average population. Despite this, they are extremely popular among groups that can afford them: upper nobility, major national and international intelligence networks, the highest echelons of wizarding universities, and wealthy adventurers.
