Oil of Oialë
"The elven gift of time is bittersweet when you love someone who did not receive it. You cannot share it. You cannot give it away... If the gods could grant me a single power they have beyond mortals’ reach, that’s what I would choose. I would choose to be able to share the gift of time with her, the gift of the elves." —Sen, from the Book of DaysOil of Oialë is an incredibly rare potion derived from the blood of an ancient Dragon that seems to grant immortality. It is a more stable variant on the Potion of Longevity, and was invented in Y1111 by Sen. The name is derived from the Elvish word for eternity.
"I've met and spoken with the human woman who tested the first dose of the oil. She experienced accelerated aging due to the temporal magic of the Queen of the Night and drank roughly four-fifths of a pint, which Sen calculated as the likely effective dose. Chronologically, the woman is thirty-seven years of age. She appears to be in her early thirties, and in perfect health. I noticed no signs of the occasional heart murmur described in the literature on the standard-recipe Potion of Longevity. Sen has continued to observe her closely, and he has reported no side effects, heart-related or otherwise. Long-term study is obviously needed, but given these results and Sen's impressive track record in medicine, I'm willing to back his hypothesis. This is a potion of youth." —Lui te-Danu, Oialë Alchemiac
Utility
Oil of Oialë seems to revert several years of aging at a time, with no known side effects. Given otherwise fair health, it should—at least in theory—extend the lifespan of the one who drinks it.
Manufacturing
Oil of Oialë has, thus far, only been manufactured by the cleric Sen. According to the Oialë Alchemiac written by the cleric Lui, several dozen doses have been distilled from dragons' blood, via a largely unexplained method loosely related to Danuvian principles of Resurrection.
Social Impact
The cure to aging has been sought for a long time, particularly in human communities. Were the alchemical methods behind the Oil of Oialë to become public knowledge, this technology could potentially change the entire concept of mortality as it is known.
Access & Availability
All known examples of the Oil of Oialë are in Sen's possession.
Discovery
The Dragonslayers of Cantonova had just rescued Sen from the Erlkönig's prison when they accidentally teleported into the lair of Urux'fhior, the black dragon Ancient of Ancients. They killed the dragon and his mate, and Sen collected his blood and several organs for study and potential use. Over the next several months, he studied previous uses for draconic blood and came to believe that an age-slowing or life-restoring potion could be made from it.
