Druidic Reincarnation

Druidic reincarnation is a Resurrection spell that can be performed by a Druid. Rather than healing the original body of the deceased, it forms a new, healthy body from blood, memories, and the energy of the earth, and invites the target Soul to occupy it.

Effect

The spell forges a connection between the Soul of the deceased and the physical world to grow the soul a new body to inhabit, allowing the soul to return to life if their original body can no longer sustain it.

Side/Secondary Effects

Though the body matches the approximate physical maturity of the soul's original body and aligns well with the soul's gender, it is often of a different species than the soul's original body. The soul recalls their memories and retains their original skills, but they may find themselves with different physical strengths and weaknesses and even latent memories of languages and skills they may not have otherwise known.

Manifestation

The spell requires a piece of a deceased person who has been dead no longer than 10 days and has not died of old age. Ideally, it is performed with their blood or flesh, though hair or even other bodily fluids can be used if needed. It also requires paper-birch bark and leaves from calendula, chamomile, sage, and yew, as well as a circle at least ten feet by ten feet in diameter on which to inscribe the spell's runes. Yew wood and a spellwrought brazier are also required, to light the two fires necessary to the spell's casting. The materials for the spell can cost nearly 1,000 gp. The spell consumes roughly 100 gp's worth of materials.   First, the blood or bodily fluids of the deceased are ground in a mortar and pestle along with chamomile flowers and leaves from the calendula, sage, and yew plants. This paste is used as an ink to inscribe memories of the deceased on paper-birch bark. The more accurate and personal the memories are, the greater the chance of the spell's success in bringing them into a suitable body, and ideally a body that appeals to some aspect of their former life.   Once the caster and their help have written all the memories they can on their paper-birch bark, the bark is burned in an enchanted brazier until it has turned completely to ash. These ashes are mixed with water or wine into a paste that is used to write a rune circle on blank ground. Once the rune circle is properly inscribed, several logs of yew wood are ignited in a brazier at its center, and consumed by the spell. The spellcaster lights a final paper-birch torch from this central flame and dances around the circle; this dance's success is enhanced if two casters work at the same time, mirroring each others' movements.

Discovery

The spell was likely first developed in the Age of Audacity by Western human druids, believed to be from a long-defunct Circle of the Moon. The secrets of the spell were closely guarded and limited to circles of the moon until the 400s CPX, when they began to spread to other druid circles. In recent centuries, they have been studied by arcane necromancers, led by Professor Mercédès of the Wizarding University of the Aquatic Kingdoms.
