WorldEmber 2025 - prep

WorldEmber is nearly here so it's time to do some prep.

This will be my first year participating is WorldEmber and I'm really excited to give it a go this year.

I pledge to write 10,000 words or more of world building I the world of 'Once upon a Summer Storm' related to the academia of the world Sumentaa.

I'm really excited to get bingo during this prep month. I personally love the gamevication of things like this because they make them so much more fun. I WANT BINGO!

Well guess who just made there author page? Yes apparently I didn't have one yet. Well I had one, the basic one that comes with singing up for World Anvil. But we putt an end to that and give my author page a well deserved glow up with a new banner and some info about me.

Define your scope for WorldEmber

For this WorldEmber I want to limit myself with the topics I want to worldbuild on. I have heard from many a fellow anviligt that just diving in is a great way to get of track and lose sight of your goal. Because of this reason I have chosen to focus on Northlight Academy. The hart of the academic world oof Sumentaa. This is a location that is important to the story I eventually want to write in it but so far has no information on it.

Read a book

Currently working on this one. Give me about three weeks to finish it.

Three weeks later.

So I finished my book.

I read Lightlark my Alex Aster. It's the first book in aa three book series.

I really enjoyed the book and it gave me some good inspiration. now I don't read to get inspiration necessarily. I read for the enjoyment of the story. which is what I love about stories. being able to take people on a journey to this world you have created.

What I really loved about this book is how the author was able to pain the different lands on the page and the people that belonged to it. They all has there own thing that made them unique form each other than there magic. This is something I will definitely be taking into my stories to make the world feel more alive and lived in.

Make a list of articles to write

I have created a list of topics I want to write on within the topic of Northlight Academy. This is probably not the final list of articles I'll write as I don't like to completely box myself in. I find that that hinders my creativity.

Review or collect your world inspirations

I have gone over my big big moodboard with all the inspiration for the world of Sumentaa and refined it a little as the world has evolved through it's world building. I have also taken this opportunity to go see and what inspiration I have for Northlight Academy, which is going to be my focos of this WorldEmber. I'll be putting these together with some other more specific inspiration into a new moodboard to help me stay focused on the topic at hand.

Create a moodboard for your world

I already have a moodboard for my world, but it's a general board for my entire world. So instead of making a moodboard for my world I have made a board just for the topic I'm gong to focus on dturing my Wove

With this world being relatively new I had not come around to making a world homepage for it. Tho looking back it would have been good to have during summer camp but hindsight 2020 am I right. Now with WorldEmber approaching it was finally time to put some work into it and get the homepage up to speed

Review your category tree

And an other one checked off. Most my articles were already ordered in categories but the once that were not have now found there home. I have also reordered the categories to be in a more logical order with the basics to the world being at the top. At the very top I set my current challenge and this year's challenges.

Tidy up your writing space

All clean.

Well I tent to keep is clean and organised because if I don't I get distracted by all the stuff on my desk and won't get anything done. But I have just tidied up I have also given my desk it's winter make over. Yes I know it's still officially fall and I still feel very much like fall this felt like a good opportunity to give my keyboard its winter keycaps.(No, no Christmas decorations yet. It's to early for that)

Find an accountability buddy

Accountabilebuddies acquired.

There are so many amazing people in this community some of which I am lucky to call friends. together we know each other's goals and make sure we all say on track.

combine this with the lovely spreadsheet Barron made and I am on track to making this a vary good first WorldEmber.

Free space

Is it prep or is it not? that is the question, but I feel like it counts so it counts.

For my NovelEmber I wrote a 10.000 world short story and it turns out it's been incredible recharge for my WorldEmber.

Do some pre-writing research

Next to the stuff I had to research for my NovelEmber story I have also done some more recharge into a couple of topics I want to explore this WorldEmber.

It's all been jotted done and ready for me to excess when I need it.

Go for a walk

Multiple walks have been made.

I love going for walks, ether to go somewhere of just to be outside. Now I will say I've been on less walks so far than normal because the weather has decided rain. Don't get me wrong I love rain but I do not love walking in it. The wet is not fun.

Did I get Bingo?

Yes, yes I did.

And I didn't just get one bingo but two, plus some bones ones.

I really liked this way of prepping. to be able to pick and choose what you wanted to do for prep and what would be helpful for you and your world going into WorldEmber was really nice. It was a nice way to prep as I feel like I did all the things I wanted / needed to do to make this upcoming WorldEmber a success.
