Techno Elemental Magic

Within the past 15 to 20 years, a new type of magic emerged. Various magic users discovered how to blend digital technology with elemental magic. It uses the internet connections to disburse magic energy. This is much different from the elemental magics that rely on the six elements to use magic. Much of the Techno Magic is still a mystery and research is ongoing. However, this could provide a bridge to the future as elemental magic becomes weakened from environmental pollution.
 

Discovery

It was discovered in the early 2000s by a witch named Zoe Roberts. She lives in New York City. Normally, it would be difficult to call up elemental magic in a urban center such as New York City, but while researching magic on the internet, Ms. Roberts found she was able to influence another's computer without using normal digital software. Over the years, she developed it further to send and receive magic energy through the internet for spells. The magic energy works similar to how magic travels through The Wild Ways only it is through the wires of connected devices. In recent years, researchers are learning how wireless technology, such as bluetooth, changes the magic energy and if it is still possible to send and receive this energy.

More research is being conducted on how this magic works. There is a theory that is a blending of several elemental energies, but no one agrees on which ones. Others suggest that it is an entirely new elemental energy. The rise in the internet connected world means this element will continue to grow and evolve.

Accessibility

While most traditional magic users are unable to use modern technology due to their elemental magic energy, this magic completely thrives on said technology. Already several covens exist to take advantage of the magic. Research suggests that as more devices are connected to the internet, the stronger and more readily accessible the energy becomes.
It is also important to note that it is disturbingly easy to access this magical energy for all individuals with a magical inclination. Even if that novice magic user is using a smartphone with a divination app installed, it is reported that the user's belief can affect the app with their magical energy. This example is an ongoing experiment with the Elemental Magic Research Institute. Early reports suggest that various live-streaming events can also power spells with viewers focusing their energy on a particular rune/chant/etc.
However, caution should be exercised when conducting these spells since the limits of the magic energy are not widely understood.  

Complexity

Research is still ongoing. Currently, the magic energy requires some form of two-way communication such as a telephone line, ethernet cable, or other internet access. Television and streaming video where only the viewer is engaging appears to not conduct this magic energy. Live-streaming, where groups of users are actively engaging with one another, do appear to conduct this energy.
It also appears that devices when not connected to the internet do not conduct this energy, but the same device will conduct this energy when connected to the internet.
