Wayward Knights
The Wayward Knights are a nomadic order of knights that travel the Peninsulan Provinces as a paramilitary force. They often travel alone or in small numbers, offering their services in exchange for food and lodging to small towns and villages.
Structure
The Wayward Knights have a very simple structure, following these ranks:
- Knight Consecrate. Upon reaching veterancy, an Errant may be given the title of Consecrate by agreement of at least two other Consecrates of the order.
- Knight Errant. Errants compose the bulk of the Wayward Knight's members.
- Knight Aspirant. Aspirants are the lowest rank of the Wayward Knights, required to acompany a Knight Errant until they are deemed fit for the title themselves by a Consecrate.
History
Founded by Yonwin of the Tinted Coast, the Wayward Knights were originally an informal branch of the Peninsulan military. Following the first Underdark War, knights were tasked with patrolling the vast territories of the Peninsulan Provinces and eliminating threats to the newly settled townsfolk.
Following the events of the Peninsulan Schism, the Wayward Knights separated themselves from the Elondian government to operate independently of any governing body and have remained a paramilitary force since. Though they still take advisement from clergymen in the Church of Aquila, the Wayward Knights remain autonomous from the church in their operations.
Tenets of Faith
The following tenants are adhered to by members of the order:
- Keep to the wind, and wherever it may take you. Knights are bound by honor not to set roots in any one place during their time in the order; once a job is done, they must move on to the next town in need.
- Keep always your ear open to the howls of the wind. If danger threatens a town and its people, the Wayward Knights are bound by honor to lend a helping hand.
- Keep not to the oaths of the rooted. Wayward Knights must not give their fealty to the likes of nobles, as this would interfere with their called purpose. Furthermore, Knights cannot be owed by another; their services must remain cheap and accessible.
- Keep only that which follows your flight. Knights cannot hold lands, titles, or any physical possession that they cannot carry with them.
Worship
Along their travels, a Wayward Knight will often stop at a shrine to Aquila and make offerings. Though they are not bound to this, many Knights plan their travel paths by the shrines they plan to stop at.
Granted Divine Powers
Those knights that are proficient in Theurgy are often capable of spells that amplify or inhibit movement.
