Vigil

A Vigil is a noble title in the nation of Eliond. Vigils hold the same rights as Exemplars, with some additional privelages afforded to their station due to the strategic importance of their afforded land.

Qualifications

Unlike an Exemplar, a Vigil is not required to have proven themselves as an exemplary member of the community, though doing so does help in their case. Rather, a Vigil must have some semblance of strategic military prowess, as the title requires one to keep a watchful eye on the borders of Eliond.

Requirements

Military service is an extremely desirable trait in a Vigil, but there have been instances of nobles that had not served being granted the title, likely due to no reasonable alternatives.

Appointment

A Vigil is appointed directly by the High Court of Featherfall.

Duties

A Vigil is tasked with maintaining acceptable control over the Elondian border in addition to the normal responsibilities of an Exemplar.

History

The title of Vigil was created prior to, and granted after, the Peninsulan Schism. Once Herrisland's secession from the Peninsulan Provinces was evident, the High Court of Eliond formulated the title of Vigil to allow for greater control over what they knew would soon be border provinces.
