Peninsulan Schism
The Peninsulan Schism was a period of conflict leading to the dissolutionment of the unified Peninsulan Provinces into the nations of Eliond, Herrisland, Foline, and Alderia.
The Conflict
Prelude
As the Church of Sol continued to amass power and influence across the provinces, outspoken members of the Aquilan clergy voiced concerns regarding the religious and cultural direction of the Provinces. They felt that the land had been gifted by Aquila as a reward for their long journey east, and that she would not allow their residence to continue if the people of the Provinces strayed from her worship. Though this sense of peril was dismissed by many as overzealous, their words of warning reached the ear of the current reigning Exalt, Marcus the Steadfast. A longtime Aquilan fundamentalist, Marcus had already displayed contempt for the growing independence of the Sunlight City.

Legacy
The Schism is perceived very differently by the different nations belonging to the Provinces. Eliond and Foline both view the Schism as the darkest time in their history, where the dreams of Yonwin of the Tinted Coast died a slow death. Both Herrisland and Alderia view the Schism as an inevitability; they hold that the inadequacies of Elondian leadership necessitated secession.
