Noble Sanctum of Olympus

Noble Sanctum of Olympus

In an alternate universe called Olympion,

Purpose / Function

As the sanctuary where a mortal can feel closest to the divine gods of Olympion, the main purpose this sanctum has, is being a place for prayers, the destination of pilgrims and a safe place for when you feel lost. However, with it's enormous size and hundreds of rooms on its 12 floors, it also serves dozens of other functions. For example there is a monastic school for those who have decided to dedicate their lives to the gods of their world, a museum of sculptures that symbolize diferent historical persons, creatures and events and a library filled with documents talking about the heroes, the events that have changed the history of Olympion's divine life and the teachings and history of their gods.

Design

As you step into the cave, the first thing you'll notice is a huge wall in front of you, with an grand gate always open in the middle. Once you're through the gates, you'll see the sanctum, although it's clear that the work had started in ancient times, with the materials being mostly very carefully formed stone blocks and some marble, it's also noticable that the building has been always strictly taken care of, with everything being smooth and there are no cracks or uneven spaces to be seen. Throughout the Sanctum, the mood stays mostly the same, with exceptions to the more special places, like the temples that are visibly more grand and the library that is full of shelves, or the monastic school with it's more strict appearance. The sanctum chambers are full of empty room, since with mist of the rooms, the workers haven't gotten to furnishing them yet.

Entries

To actually reach the Sanctum, you must first get through three gates, each one of them heavily secured. First, you need to go through the gates that lead you into the cave, this entry is mildly secured, with a few guards standing at the sides of the gates just to make sure that no wanted criminals enter the cave. The second gates that you have to pass are the gates that lead you to the magnificent courtyard of the Sanctum. These gates are a bit more heavily guarded, with the guards making sure no one enters the courtyard with anything that could be used to harm the nature, Sanctum itself or its residents and visitors. At last there are the gates of the Sanctum, those gates are the most strictly guarded, you have to first tell why you want to go inside the Sanctum, ho long do you plan on staying there and whether or not you have someone inside the Sanctuary that could endorse your claims. You also need to identify yourself, if able to do so, and sign the papers about your visit.

Sensory & Appearance

As you step inside the Sanctum, you notice some changes right away:

  • The first thing you notice is that the air instantly gets fresher, warmer and a bit less humid than it was out in the cave.
  • The Sanctuary is also more generously lighted, with huge candles burning on the walls and from the grand chandeliers.
  • because of the soundproof walls and doors, you can't really hear anything from other rooms. and thanks to the air freshing windows in almost every room, there isn't much you could smell either, except for maybe when you go to the kitchen.

Contents & Furnishings

The furnishing hasn't yet been added, but is going to be appropriate to a Sanctum, with equipment to make the best possible connection with the gods, and productiveness boosting furnishment for other rooms in the Sanctum aswell. The walls of almost all rooms are going to be ornated with paintings, plants and sculptures.

Architecture

The building doesn't have any round walls, the floor, the walls, the ceiling are all always very strictly measured and straight, with right angled corners. It is mostly made of stone, but floors are marble in some of the rooms. There are many pillars around the building, each of them has a different story carved into them, some even call them The Pillars of History, because of all the legends they tell of ancient heroes and wars.

History

The plans of this building were made by Daedalus. The project was ordered by the biggest and most powerful organization in this world, Theonikon Synedrion, or, in english, Divine Council. However, the construction has been stopped ever since Daedalus died few centuries ago.
