Sundermines

Situated along The Rift, deep below the city of Anra are one of the largest active mining systems in @Kirinor. Some of the mines' earlier and shallower tunnels are in what is now called Lower Anra, but the portions of mines that remain active or vast and stretch for miles deeper into the earth and farther from the Rift.   The Sundermines are, potentially, the single most valuable source of natural resources in the Kirinian Empire and supply a significant percentage of the ore used for creating armaments and defenses for the military. Only the mines at Burimm can rival the Sundermines as producers for the empire and each source is fiercely protected.   The mines stretch so far and deep that there are several places in which they intersect with tunnels from the Underdark. A security force is required to patrol the mines on a regular basis to ensure the safety of the miners and the security of the ore that is being excavated.   More than once, serious incursions from various factions within the Underdark has rendered a specific mine or branch completely unsafe and the authorities have chosen to collapse the tunnels rather than be forced to secure the area against the invaders.
