Seeress of the Valralei
Summary
A 500-year old legend, primarily known amongst the inhabitants of northeast Kirinor, is the legend of the Seeress of the Valralei. As the legend goes, an elven woman, mad with grief over the death of her entire family, ran from her home in Forest Deep within the Valralei Forest and disappeared amongst the trees. She is is said to have not been seen by anyone for over 100 years when she emerged from the forest, naked and serene as if she had gone gone for a peaceful walk just a few hours before.
Upon her return to Forest Deep, it is said that she went from dwelling to dwelling, speaking in riddles and confusing language, yet the things she said to each person ended up coming true. Whether it be wealth and prosperity or grisly death, each recipient of her prognostication saw those words come to pass in their lives. The inhabitants of the city were elves and therefore lived with magic each and every day, yet this unnerved them. The Council of Elders asked the seeress to go back to the forest and leave Forest Deep and its inhabitants alone.
The legend concludes with the seeress returning to the woods and becoming a hermit. Yet travelers occasionally emerge from the forest claiming to have met her and have been told of their future by an ancient elven woman.
