Cult of Whispers
The existence of the so-called 'Cult of Whispers' assumes that there are actually people out there who are unfulfilled by the gods who still exist and may still answer prayers. The likelihood of finding such people outside of an asylum approaches zero.As Professor Hoss's quote so excellently illustrated, the Cult of Whispers is believed to be a myth by most religious scholars and others who might be interested in such things. As such, the information provided here is a collection of "facts" based on hearsay and folklore and should be treated with extreme skepticism. A cult dedicated to the dead god, Calaq, the Cult of Whispers has reputedly existed as long as any of the major religions of Ankaluun. Never gaining much of a following due to the many factors against it, including the extreme secrecy under which cult members operate as well as the perceived futility in worshipping a dead god, the cult nevertheless has kept alive for millennia. The focus of the cult is believed to be the resurrection of Calaq and returning him to his rightful place in the Pantheon. While they have generally been referred to as the Cult of Whispers it is unknown what they might call themselves internally. Some of the more 'open-minded' religious scholars claim that the cult is really just the remanence of the Church of Calaq and they maintain a priesthood to this day. These scholars believe that the cult is just a pejorative for that priesthood. While, if they truly exist, the priesthood theory is compelling, it does not account for the levels of secrecy involved. The other gods, save for the twins, and their followers would almost certainly be overjoyed at the re-emergence of Calaq. A more reasonable theory is that the cult exists and uses Calaq's death as an excuse to come together but their real motives are far more secular in nature and more about power than holiness. Unfortunately, unless someone is able to definitively prove (or disprove) the cult's existence it is impossible to know which theory, if either, is correct.
