Öšdúu-Vërðïm

The Öšdúu-Vërðïm was the governmental authority that ruled the city of Vërðïm for the majority of its existence. It represents the longest-lived of the Öšdúu and through its unbroken line of rule, it raised the city to become the most populous and most powerful of the Hýyo-Wýðúr. During the fall of the Öšdúu and subsequent coagulation of the cities into whole tribes, the Öšdúu-Vërðïm would be superceded by the tribe of Sangus.

History

Settlement and Creation of Vërðïm

The Öšdúu-Vërðïm's history coincides with the early to middle historical periods of the city of Vërðïm. This city was one of the four major Wëbëlupian Cities alongside Güðün, Lómóhüd, and Óvarhën, meaning that these cities were built at the sites of various tracking poles erected by the Wýðúric Expedition. For Vërðïm, it was built at the 11th Wëbëlup-Wýðúr out of a total of 22, placing it squarely in the middle of the Wëbëlupian cities, and the Hýyó-Wýðúr as a whole.

Although first settled and established in the ensuing rush of emigrants after the highly successful Wýðúric and Khýnýšic Expeditions, Vërðïm would not receive a formal government until after the various shifts and migrations prompted by the Púlö-Ïlýrhonid.

Púlö-Ïlýrhonid

Main Article: Púlö-Ïlýrhonid

The Púlö-Ïlýrhonid, or Ïlýrhonid Question, was a dilemma faced by every emigrant from the Ïlýrhonid Tribe, and concerned the cultural and societal views one would adopt. An individual would fall into one of two sentiments, either the Ëvoðo-Reïlýrhonid or Ëvoðro-Ýmïlýrhonid. Respectively, these correspond to viewpoints aligning with and against the Ïlýrhonid Tribe. While most of the tribes established during these early times were joined together by a certain goal or value, those in the Hýyó-Wýðúr were joined together by nothing besides a diverse array of goals and values and a sprinkling of circumstance. As such, what occurred in the Wýðúrian cities was a region-encompassing period of flux and migration as droves of people moved to be with those who shared their opinions.

The most influential point of contention was whether one adhered to the Ëvoðo-Reïlýrhonid or the Ëvoðro-Ýmïlýrhonid. During this flux period, those of the former tended to move southeast to cities like Güðün and Lómóhüd in order to be closer to the Ïlýrhonid Tribe, while those in the latter tended to move northwest to Óvarhën. Of course, this wasn't the only point of contention; other factors like religious, traditional, and familial ties also played roles in determining where one settled. However, as one moved to either extreme end of the Hýyó-Wýðúrian region, these ties were superceded by the Púlö-Ïlýrhonid, but as one moved to the middle, the Púlö-Ïlýrhonid would gradually decrease in influence and give way to a multitude of these familial and cultural ties.

The city of Vërðïm, being right in the middle, saw the most flux in this period, and instead of being dominated by one large opinion, the city was home to many factional groups that bickered throughout the time period.

Öšdúu

Main Article: Öšdúu

The Öšdúu were city-state governments that each ruled, and were each limited to, a particular settlement. Their jurisdiction had absolute rule over these respective cities, and the land in between was utterly lawless in comparison. The time at which the Öšdúu formed was typically dependent on where the city was relative to the Hýyó-Wýðúr region as a whole. Because the Púlö-Ïlýrhonid always took center stage when deciding the cultural stance in cities located at the extreme ends of the region, they almost always converged on a particular sentiment very rapidly. Upon converging on this sentiment, it would only be a short time before an individual would rise up and take on a leadership role. For example, the Öšdúu-Güðün would be established almost immediately after the Wýðúric Expedition due both to the large influx in emigrants and the Expedition members already being ideologically united.

For those in the middle, particularly Vërðïm, the city-wide fracturing and factioning that occurred substantially delayed this process, and it seems that a long chain of infighting occurred before the successful establishment of the Öšdúu-Vërðïm. Although the exact date is not known due to the gap in the records between 25026 and 25021 AYM, the Öšdúu-Vërðïm were almost certainly established around 25022-21 AYM.

However, for almost every single Öšdúu, the large variety in ideology, culture, and societal views from city to city meant that sentiments of distrust would inevitably grow, and most of these cities would build walls around their territories to protect themselves from others. For Vërðïm, it seems that the factioning problem had not been sorted even after the establishment of the Öšdúu-Vërðïm, as it contains not only an external wall but several sets of internal walls, ostensibly to separate the various ideological parties of the city.
