The Western Front
Considered by many in western Oliida to be the “face” of the Red Frost War, the Western Front is among the most dire and fruitless battlegrounds the world has ever seen. Hundreds of miles of trenches stretch across eastern Paix, in which hundreds of thousands of soldiers fight and die every day in order to reclaim a few feet of lost ground. The dead are almost more common to see than the living, littering the space between the trenches called “No Man’s Land.”
Despite the brutal stalemate, the Western Front has seen the greatest advances in technology such as tanks, machine guns, gas, and high-speed combat brooms for bomber witches. With so many new ways in which a soldier can be killed, it’s no wonder the Western Front is among the bloodiest in the war, where lifespans of soldiers are only measured in hours.
As of now, the Avilonian and Paix troops finally made some headway through the Pierre mountain range, placing Siegesland firmly on the defensive for the first time since the beginning of the war over four years prior. Whether the House Collective’s forces will be able to capitalize on their advantage is something that has yet to be seen.
“Phima’s Garden has grown crowded
With souls all dressed the same
Her flowers crushed by muddy boots
And feet which once were lame
Do they stand in rows and wait their turn,
Their deeds to judge and weigh?
Do they look each other in the eye
See faces which they’ve slain?
Will they laugh? Will they cry?
Cast forgiveness or cast blame?
Will they even speak of war at all
Those souls all dressed the same”
-A poem found on the body of an unnamed Avilonian soldier
