The Coup of King Kirk

The uprising of the Fractured Isles and the death of the long ruling King Kregent Kirk.

The Conflict

Prelude

The uprising began shortly after a small group of adventurers arrived on the Mainland of the Fractured Isles, a group consisting of the heroes Alador Estiechade, Flank, Umenyiora, Rubia Okuwa, Baldo, Booj, Chel'sea and Arzo. The uprising went on for close to a month, as the group after discovering the deep rooted corruption of the Fractured Isles and the Golden Order, took matters into their own hands and began taking out King Kirks council one by one.

The group began by hunting the Lord of Knowledge on a secluded island to the east of the mainland, figuring out that he was only posing as an ancient elf and was in fact a strange ooze that fed off of peoples memories and intellect. After their hunt they returned to Mouldtown where they came face to face with King Kirk himself, who had already heard of the defeat of one of his advisors. He simply spoke to the party, left them a sword and left them to their own devices.

After the discussion with the King, they had made their way to the small pirate island of Murkdeep and stealthily made their way through the city, all the way to the throne room at the top where they came face to face with Sir Letros, the former Pirate King and swiftly dispatched of him.

When the party returned to Mouldtown after assassinating Sir Letros, they had found their beloved Uncle Angus killed by one of the Golden Lords, a Starborn by the name of T-Bone. From here, the party split up and conquered more ground, with one group missing Alador and Baldo heading after T-Bone, and by extension Illya Okuwa, as the two were found together. The chase for T-Bone led the group across the seas and all the way to Illya's home city, Khasysir. The group from there killed both T-Bone and Illya in one swift battle.

While the chase for T-Bone was occuring, Alador, Arzo and Baldo conspirated with the leader of the Mouldtown to perform a prison break on Althris Prison Island. They snuck onto a prison barge taking residents from Mouldtown and, once there, freed whoever they could with the help of one of the apes that Alador tamed. Upon their escape they were confronted by Alfred Kirk, one of King Kirks three sons, who was killed and thrown off of a bridge on the prison island.

The final stop for the group in the series of assassinations was a ferry trip to Port Landow, since at this point they were all wanted criminals they managed to hitch a ride on a cargo transport ferry to Port Landow, where they proceeded to hide amongst the crowds, find a rogue automaton who was to be auctioned off to a noble, steal him and escape while trying to kill Octavia Estiechade and her husband, Dr. Ansel. The plan to assassinate Dr. Ansel was a success, enlisting the help of a rogue mining automaton by the name of Booj they found him in his lab and dispatched of him. What didn't go to plan however is while they were escaping they were found out by Matadric Greycoat and Octavia Estiechade, and while trying to flee via boat Octavia activated her late husbands greatest automaton, the clock tower in the center of Port Landow, to chase the ferry through the water. What ensued was a sea battle where Baldo and Chel'sea arrived fashionably late with a war ship full of Zaxus cultists. The hulking clock tower automaton was taken down though Octavia had lived, the group reunited back in Mouldtown.

Before the actual siege they had a singular stop, as they had made peace with Matadric Greycoat and Ratham, a mysterious golden lord, seemed to actually be completely against the king, gave them a crucial bit of information that led them into a cave deep underneath the Mainland. They traversed through the ancient capital that Zaxus once ruled over to reunite Arzo, who was stuck in a weapon, with the full suit of Zaxus' armor. They fought their way through the ancient defenses and found the armor, giving Arzo full control over the kingdom underneath the capital.

From there, all respective parties were ready and met up in Mouldtown to plan.

Deployment

Planning happened in the morning after all the respective Golden Lords were dealt with, and shortly after, the attack commenced. The respective parties of the Mouldtown Rebels, Port Landow Pirates, Zaxus Cultists and all eleven of Alador's Tamed Apes grouped up and marched towards the capital, bolstered by Booj who, as a newly appointed pirate captain, sang sea shanties with all of them.

They stormed up Willow Heights and to the gates of Kirdrane where they were met by a lone royal guard by the name of Brultan Athilier manning the gate who, in an act to spare his own life, let the rebellion into the capital and in fact joined them against King Kirk.

Battlefield

The battle was fought all throughout Kirdrane's streets and alleyways, all throughout the city all the way up to the royal palace entrance.

The Engagement

The Royal Guard was dispatched quickly throughout the city the second the gate was opened and the rebels were inside, the uprising was outnumbered by over a hundred more guards and were out maneuvered, as the training of the royal guard was not to be downplayed. At first glance, it was to be a slaughter.

Arzo however, who was missing from the initial charge, changed the tide of the battle, as with his new found power from reuniting with the Armor of Zaxus he cast an incantation and rose the city of Zaxus from underneath Kirdrane and merged the two cities, bringing to life the old residents as living stone constructs. Now outnumbered the Royal Guard were quickly swarmed by the rebels and the ancient stone constructs, allowing the main group to fight through the streets and into the palace, where they took the fight directly to King Kirk.

Outcome

The main group who stormed the capital while the Royal Guard was occupied came face to face with King Kirk, and in a hard fought battle, took him down and beheaded him, showing his head to the streets and ending the battle, the Royal Guard standing down as their king had been slain.

The immediate attention after the battle was turned to arresting any Royal Guard who stood down, deciding what to do with them later and tending to all the wounded, along with cleanup of the bodies.

The Fractured Isles however, were now left without a king, and as to not leave a power vacuum for any loyalists to King Kirk, Flank took the position of king.

Aftermath

Years after the uprising, many of King Kirks old Royal Guard now enjoy positions serving under King Flank, with a select few forming a sect on the Fractured Isles, still loyal to their old king and adamant that he will return for his rightful throne.

Octavia Estiechade serves as Flank's advisor and second in command. Matadric Greycoat was also left alive and to his own devices, with his city of Therivale becoming independant, though still working alongside the rest of the Fractured Isles.

Dr. Ansel had lived his assassination attempt through the use of clones and transference of his own soul, though he wasn't able to re-secure his position in the Port Landow council and roams aimlessly, bunking wherever he can and scavenging supplies to use for his inventions.

Kirdrane, even years after the battle, remains inhospitable due to the merging of it and Zaxus' city. A new capital was constructed south of it at the foot of Willow Heights named Folkstone.
