Vre'cki Athame
The Clawfane mage stood over their victim. They had no allegiance to the Cult of the Deep, nor did they take any pleasure in the grim task they had undertaken. But alas, their way of life demanded it. Everyone knew that any mage worth their while in this area had a healthy stock of souls to fuel their magic with. And it just wouldn't do to go soulless any longer. They press a small scratch into the shell on their finger with the wicked sharp blade of the Athame in their hand. This little puppy had cost them a fortune, but it finally meant they could begin harvesting their own souls, without having to trade for them. The blade was jagged and sawtoothed, easily able to cause plenty of damage.
They sighed, looking over to the poor elven man, unconscious on the table in their laboratory. At least they could take comfort in the fact that he wouldn't be missed. The blade pierced his heart like butter, and with a quick incantation, the semi-green glow of his soul rushed through the hollow center of the blade, and into the holding chamber in the hilt.
It was exhilerating.
The mage smiled, pulling the knife out, and weighing it, noting how it felt lighter with the soul inside. They knew it would be, but it was still exhilerating. Ok... They could easily get used to this feeling.
Mechanics & Inner Workings
A vre'cki Athame is something like a dirk, a long dagger with a thick handle, more befitting of a short sword. The dagger has a thin hollow through its center, leading down into the handle, which is inscribed on the interior with runes of sealing and holding. When the dagger is stabbed into a dying person, their soul is transferred into the chamber within the hilt, and stored there to later be utilized, release, or contained elsewhere. The Athame can hold about five souls.
