OBaB: Overveiw
Of Blood and Bones is Dungeons and Dragons 5E campaign created by Marcus Wesch. It contains a mixture of action, combat, and roleplaying that come together to form the most detailed and whole world I have ever made. This article will summarize the main story beats and themes the campaign will hit, as well as franchising speculation for future projects.
Inspirations
I began writing this campaign in the summer of 2025 when my group of friends wanted to get D&D back up and running. A few years before we had had several short campaigns, but we were in middle school so it wasn't very serious or story heavy. Just a lot of fun antics to entertain ourselves. Now though, after really getting into the community of Dungeons and Dragons, I've become a huge fan of the narrative aspect this game can bring out. Critical Role, Dimension 20, and Legends of Avantris are my inspirations for this project, and I am forever grateful for the creativity and ideas they have shared with me throughout my childhood. One of my best friends and fellow author Kale Schmitz has helped me a great deal in creating OBaB, from giving me ideas to making me push myself to meet his own standards in writing. He is incredibly talented and without him I could not have made this project what it is.
One of the biggest inspirations I have for OBaB is the DOOM franchise, a boomer shooter that is incredibly popular in the gaming sphere. Much of the gore and world design is based on ID Softwares version of Hell from those games, and even though hell is not directly mentioned in my series, much of its lore and monsters are taken as a basis for some major characters such as the Caducas and Morrigan.
Prologue
The prologue picks about a month after the events of Totemfall, a previous campaign run by fellow DM Joshua Bennett. The players find themselves on a dock in western Mexico, a gathering place for traders, smugglers, and merchants alike. The party has come here to attempt to earn some coin, as their last adventure sucked them dry of any worldly currency they had. At this point they have already spoken with the captain of a crew and are set to sail the next day, after a rest in a tavern of course.
