Session 36 - Deep Within the Sahuagin Fortress

General Summary

Waterday - 5 Sunsebb - Morning

  Previously, the Try-hard Misfits approached the towering rock fortress of the Sahuagin and discovered an underwater entrance beneath the causeway from the Hool Marshes. After following a small tunnel, the party emerged in a locked cell and surprised a small party of sahuagin torturing a Locatath, named Borgas. Upon freeing him, the party checked the rest of the cells freeing both a Triton, named Kysh, and his deadly Sea Lion mount.  
Leaving the torture room, Karia swims into a four way intersection with hallways all leading to darkness. She hears a faint distant roaring and makes her way back toward the torture room. After a discussion, the party retraces Karia's route and notices one passage with a very faint light in the distance. As they proceed the silence is occasionally punctuated by a low rumbling reminiscent of a distant crowd cheering. Kyra mumbles an incantation while tracing sigils in the water, suddenly Nar winks out of sight.  
Pleased with her companions' reactions, Nar invokes her Manta Ray Cloak and swims down the long sloping passageway. Propelling herself faster towards the end of the tunnel, the light slowly brightens until she shoots out through a doorway, into a brilliantly lit area. Gliding past two unsuspecting sahuagin on each side of the doorway she continues toward the center of the sandy area. There locked in mortal combat, two more sahaugin are stripped to their waist circling each other. Nar observes as they bite and claw into each other while she circles.
Suddenly, a deafening roar from above draws Nar's attention over the arena's tall wall.
Exploring up towards the quartz ceiling, several dozen cheering sahuagin come into view, watching the spectacle below unfold, and Nar speeds back to the waiting party to share her discovery.

After another brief discussion, Karia scouts the western passageway. It continues to a branch with the western branch twisting and turning and the southern branch reaching into darkness. Facing no clear path, she decides to return to her companions for next steps.
  The party decides to move down the westward path and take the southern path until they bypass a doorway that opens into the arena. The sound of the roaring crowd roars in the background as the party continues their exploration that leads them first to a room covered in a bed of seaweed while several sahuagin float lazily between a couple of sharks.   Carefully avoiding detection, the party then heads eastward until it turns south. Karia swims ahead until hearing the grunts and growls associated with sahuagin. She heads back to the party who head back for the northern passageways.   As they once more pass the entrance to the arena, Kyra turns to Triton and asks, "Can you have your Sea Lion wait here as a sentry? If he sees anything, he can come find us to the north."   Triton quickly assents and the party continues back to the main hallway and explore a new path, only to disturb a pack of sharks after peering into a suspicious doorway. The massive beasts, covered in coral and shells, turn their eyes on the Misfits and begin their attack, only to be quickly wiped out by the mighty warriors of Saltmarsh with the help of Kysh and Borgas.  
As the last of the sharks slowly sink toward the floor, the party searches the storage area. During the investigation Karia notices a suspicious line in the south wall near loose piles of rope and nails. On closer inspection, she uncovers a secret door and calls Wee Jane over to lift it open, then Kyra wedges the door open with a makeshift jamb made of dull spears.   Karia, moving into the hallway, is suddenly assaulted by an explosion of freezing air from an unseen source, which also knocks the aged door off of its supports to crash closed as cracks and fissures shoot through the apparatus, trapping Karia inside. As the rest of the party begins work to clear the door, Karia swims around the room and finds some spare electrum before managing to spring the lock on the coffer, uncovering a fair amount of treasure just as her companions are able to clear the doorway enough to effect her escape.
