Rhizia - Thillonrian Peninsula

The isolated, mountainous region at the northeastern edge of the Flanaess is home to many barbarians of nearly pure Suel blood. A cold stretch of land, divided by mountains, it’s a ruggedly beautiful landscape with coniferous forests and deep fjords. The climate is subarctic, with rocky soil and a brief growing season. Known as the Thillonrian Peninsula to most, it is known by the name of Rhizia in the Cold Tongue of the northern Suel barbarians who call this place home.

This “nation” consists of three rival groupings: the Fruztii or Frost Barbarians, the Schnai or Snow Barbarian and the Cruskii or Ice barbarians. Adjacent to these Suel lands are the subterranean Euroz metropolis of Garel Enkdal , the one-time Aerdi dependency of Ratik and the mixed Flan-Suel people of the Hold of Stonefist, located on the coast of the Icy Sea.

Originally home to firece euroz, eiger and trunkt, Flan tribes began migrating into the area nearly 2,0000 years ago. Orignaly eeking out a precarious existence through hunting, trapping and reindeer herding, eventually one tribe, the Tostenhca, settled and began building towns and cities. Trading furs, amber and gold with their kin south and west of the Griffs and Rakers mountains, the Tostenhca, grew rich and their druids developed an special aptitude for weather magics, something that enabled their civilization to thrive in the otherwise cold realm. In time, the wizard Keraptis established himself as “protector” of Tostenhca, keeping the locals in line with gruesome threats fulfilled just often enough to keep them in fear. The local depredations of monsters decreased markedly under Keraptis’s rulership, so for a time the local populace did not mind paying Keraptis’s rather heavy taxes and tithes. However, as all dissension to Keraptis’s rule was stilled one way or another, Keraptis began incrementally increasing the amount of wealth he demanded from those under his protection, until eventually he was claiming a large portion of everything produced in the valleys. Around that time, circa -1100 CY, came a sudden upsurge in madness, demonic posessions, and undead, and in the midst of these calamities, Keraptis introduced a new tax: a third of all newborn children were to be given to him. The people of Tostenhca rebelled and destroyed the wizard’s hierarchy. Led by the legendary druid Gethrun Shoiraine and his ranger followers, they marched on Keraptis’s keep, destroying his personal minions as well. During the chaos, Keraptis managed to escape to the lands unkown.

Following the Rain of Colorless Fire, three Suel Houses fled the destruction of their homeland with their many serfs and servants and fled east and north in disarray, hordes of humanoids and migrating Oeridians on their tails. While many Suel Houses, such as the Rhola, Neheli and Zelrad migrtaed to the spouthern reaches of the Flanaess. The Cruskii, Fruztii and Schnai were all pushed north after suffering defeat after defeat at the hands of both humanoids and the native Flan defending their home territories. Coming to the land that is today the Duchy of Tenh, the Suel met the descendants of the Tostenhca who granted them passage through their lands in exhcange for everlasting peace. The Suel agreed and moved into the Thillonrian Peninsula to establish a new homeland. In this harsh and unforgiving land, the Suel lost touch with their ancient civilization and slid into barbarism, eschewing forever the Suel reliance on magic for the surety of cold steel and strength of arm.
