Greyhawk 27: Toe Beans
General Summary
From Ollithas Qualanthri's record of deeds
The goblins from the inn we had previously stayed at were on my mind. Apparently, the goblins were on Fenric’s mind as well. We decided to see if we needed to deal with this problem further. We took Fenric's four companions with us
On the way, we met a troop of about 45 militia, mostly men, heading south to check on a bandit problem along the road. They had no information about goblins. Their captain received our information from the group on the river we had seen, promised a reward should it prove useful, and allowed us to travel with them.
Once we reached the inn, we learned that the goblin problem had stopped from the innkeeper. It seemed to be so after a few searches around the inn for signs of activity.
We also met a half-elf looking to practice his elvish while eating our meal. His name was Tobeen. He was heading south to meet up with some friends.
The next day, with the troop moved on south, we decided to check some groves of trees around the river. We went south first. At the first big grove of trees, the signs were clear to me that there was a path in this grove of trees that led to a very large tree. That tree had clever holds in the tree to climb up about 25 feet. Fencilor went up and said the lookout position was looking to the road.
This set up fit more with the bandit problem than the goblin.
We went north along the river and found nothing. So we decided to set an overnight watch on the lookout tree. One group would stay hidden by the tree, one group would rest a ways off.
Just before day break with Fenric and two of his companions watching the tree, they spotted a man running up to the tree. Fenric did the same bit of magic from the encounter with the orcs and made the man fall asleep.
We tied him up and took him back to the inn for questioning.
After bit of bargaining and forcefulness, we got some information from the man. His name was Philip, or at least he said it was, and he was a part of the “brigands” raiding the merchants. Their leader was Tobeen, likely the very same half-elf we had met the previous day. They were based out of a goblin camp they cleared out, which explains the goblins’ absence. It was on the west side of the river, south of the bridge. We had agreed to let “Philip the bandit” live and go back to Greyhawk City. We simply followed him to make sure.
