Half-elf

Half-elves are typically crossings of High Elves and Humans, but normally receive very little respect from their Elven side. High Elves generally see marrying outside of Elven society as abandoning Elf culture and way of life, and as such dislike both the High Elves who do this and the Half-Elves that are born from this.    Though Half-Elves in the Central Kingdoms might share art, architecture, language, and nationality with their Human and Halfling countrymen, they do have significant differences, which are presented here.

Magic

Thanks in no small part to their High-Elf ancestry, Half-Elves often have a greater appreciation and understanding of magic than the average human. Half-Elf villages are often even ruled by a council of Elder-Mages, who govern with wisdom and grace. Half-Elf villages are usually very magical places, with enchantments and warding glyphs around every corner. Many such villages are even known to create Golems and Warforged to defend their lands.

Metal

From their Elven side, Half-Elves get magic. From their Human side, Half-Elves get metal. Half-Elf mage-knights are among the greatest warriors in the Central Kingdoms, dressed full in iron plate, and wielding sturdy weapons of great strength. Mage-knights might never become the best magicians, and might never become the best swordsman, but their combination of the two is formidable nonetheless.

Religion

Half-elves see the religion of their Elven ancestors through the eyes of Central Human religion. (See Divinity)
In Half-Elf religion, Divinity is not just life-energy of unknown origin, it is the spirits of the ancestors of all living things, manipulating things from behind the scenes in whatever ways they can, such that people in the larger world might be better off.
