Sea Drake
Basic Information
Anatomy
This draconic creature looks like an amphibian with hard, reptilian scales. Their tails are adapted for water, making them well suited for their role as aquatic predators. They also have flippers made to push through water, but older drakes learn to pull themselves along the land when they need to. They're much slower here, but they will use it to get one or two final attempts on a prey that tried to escape. They won't go further than the beach unless forced though, unless there is literally no other option. They can breathe air fine, but they're designed for the sea and on land they're almost helpless. They can still bite and spit, but they have no mobility and anything with range can kill it easily.
Their spit is a breath weapon of pressurized water. It starts weak in hatchlings, but there are reports of old drakes knocking down stone walls and blasting holes into ships. It is so powerful it even works underwater, creating a powerful line of force to stun potential prey before the drake dashes over for the kill.
Growth Rate & Stages
Starting out as large jelly like eggs, sea drakes hatch as tadpoles. In this form they're soft, squishy, and hungry. Their parents usually help them by ripping larger prey into hatchling sized shreds. The parents take care of them for a couple years, protecting and feeding them until the hatchling undergoes a metamorphosis. During this, the drake goes from a juvenile to an adult, gaining the scales and lungs adults possess. Once the hatchling gains scales, the parents and child disperse to continue their lives.
Ecology and Habitats
Sea drakes, as the name suggests, do best in bodies of large water. Anything from an ocean to a large lake will do, as long as there's enough prey. They have been known to terrorize coastal settlements though, being able to survive on land enough to attack. They prefer to stay in the sea though, where they are masters. Sea drakes are one of, if not the, most powerful predators in the ocean.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Sea drakes eat meat. Lots of meat, preferably fish meat. They view anything smaller than them as food, even sentient races like humans and muntjac. They'll even try and catch sea birds from the surface.
