The Rapture System
"You can tell those who belong from those who don't in rapture, and you can be sure that those who don't will run home without a tail to tuck behind their legs at all!" - A common saying in rapture
Geography
The Rapture system boasts four stars linked in close orbit and 7 planets are constantly pulled into different orbits. Rapture 1 is a boiling hellscape where no life can exist. It is locked so that only one side ever faces the star it's orbiting. Rapture 2 is not much different, except that it turns, and is ringed by a dense asteroid belt rich in frozen nitrogen and copper. Rapture 3 is the moon of rapture 2, and it is a barren, cratered wasteland with no atmosphere. Rapture 4 is a large desert planet, where the settlers of Rapture have mostly taken residence. Small inland seas provide water for the planets life. Rapture 5 is another desert planet, however, no water is present so settlement is minimal. This is where most Ferrodium is stored, and a planetary shield guards the planet. Rapture 6 is a small planet that was ripped apart by gravitational forces millions of years ago. Its debris is kept in the same area, however, so mining companies drill out its scattered remains. Rapture 7 was Rapture 6's twin, and it orbits its wreck. It is a molten world covered in volcanoes that constantly expel Ferrodite to the surface in magma form.
Fauna & Flora
Humans live both on Rapture 4 and 5, but also in numerous small trading posts that dot the system. On rapture 4, strange tripedal creatures roam most of the surface. Named Scalebacks, they are smaller than most human children and travel in herds numbering in the hundreds. They are the predators to the larger and tamer Featherbacks, who live in more mountainous regions, and several species of small insects that vaguely resemble praying mantises. They are heralded as a good omen when a herd passes through a settlement, as they drive off pests and rats brought from earth. Several species of cactus imported from Earth have come to dominate natural flora. but the native insects are adapting well. Many native species of algae like cells have formed vast colonies under the water of the planets few lakes, providing a food source for numerous species of fish and amphibians that live in the shallower lakes.
Natural Resources
The Rapture system is rich in mineral resources and is a large crossroads in between the mid and outer core. Its colonies make fine artisan goods, and it is one of only two sources of Ferrodium.
