The Iron Gap

The Iron Gap is a large, wide, and easily navigable pass between the Hornpeaks and the Highsong Mountains, connecting the Cornerwood in the east to the Bularian Plain to the west. Despite its high altitude, the gap is free from snow almost year round, making it a popular trade route. It is inhabited largely by dwarves, and is home to several large dwarven cities and many smaller settlements. Most metal from the mines is shipped east toward Talluran and to cities down the Everrun, with some going west to Shakara.

History

During the Age of the Dragon Emperors, the dragon's of the Aurean Empire took control of the Iron Gap, controlling both trade and the movement of nomads that often traverse the pass. Since dragon rule came to an end, the dwarves of the area have maintained independence, with the various cities often coming into conflict with each other, but banding together when outside threats have emerged. This often included the Aurean Empire once it expanded back to the area in the third millennia, and the dwarves often found themselves paying a tribute of metals, ultimately providing for much of the arms and armor of the southern legions.
