The Unfallen Banner
A single battle-worn standard of the Order of the Light, planned by the banner carrier of a detachment of Paladins as they made their last stand, sits atop a gently sloped hill. The ground for a hundred meters around it is littered with the bodies of fallen Paladins and their enemies. Pierced through with a dozen blades, one of the Paladins grasps the pole of the banner, as if he died in the act of supplication to it for aid. A palpable holy energy radiates off of the banner and neither can the bodies be moved from where they fell nor decay touch them. Not even the grass grows now.
History
During the Blood Clan War, a company of Paladins went missing en route to the front. After this battle site was discovered, the mystery of their fate deepened. Not only did it appear they had been set upon by Tribesmen, but also other Elven soldiers. But those Elves were later discovered to belong to units that had been wiped out in another region several months prior, their bodies never to have been recovered. Further vexing, the Paladins had staged a staggered retreat to the place of their final stand over several hundred meters, losing troops along the way. Not a single enemy body was found among them. It was not until reaching the area surrounding the planted banner that any enemy soldiers appear to have died.
It is commonly thought that an unknown power, somehow using a combination of fallen Elven soldiers and Tribesmen, had attacked them. And that only by the power of the Light, invoked as the last of the Paladins fell, that they overcame that power. The site has become a place of pilgrimage for those who still wonder at the mystery of it all.
