The Arcane Academy

Structure

Any Elf can attend the Academy to learn magic under the tutelage of the member mages. These students would be considered Apprentices for the duration of their studies, and Graduates once those studies are completed. Junior members, or Graduates who have just begun membership in the Academy, are known as Wayfarers. They undertake expeditions into distant lands to broaden their understanding of the possibilities in the world and to complete tasks and fulfill obligations of the Academy to other lands. Established members, known as Adepts, usually occupy their time with teaching roles and magical services to the public. They might take on a profession that aligns with the magic they've studied and move to another part of the kingdom, or they might stay and live at the Academy itself. Higher ranking members are known as Keepers. These mages tend to the archives and maintain the texts that hold all of the known secrets of magic. Keepers also teach the higher levels of magic to those members of the Academy who wish to expand their own knowledge and abilities, but these services are often exclusive and expensive. Above the Keepers are the Archmages. These mages are the most advanced magic users in Elven society and also have seats on the High Council. They undertake magical experiments and perform tasks almost exclusively for the Crown.

Public Agenda

The Academy's main goal in being established is to formalize and standardize magical learning among Elves. They act as a centralized service provider for all tasks requiring a magical touch throughout the Kingdom.

Assets

The Academy resides in the capital city of Fairfalls. The campus includes several residential buildings for members and students, administrative buildings and lecture halls, the Hall of Records, the Council Hall and The Tower of Foci. The Hall of Records is the official record keeping center of the Kingdom. It also contains a complete collection of the written knowledge accumulated by generations of mages. The Council Hall is the meeting place of the High Council, making the Academy intrinsically linked to the Kingdom's government and policies. The Tower of Foci contains the residence of the Archmages, their personal collections of texts, studies, experiment halls and the Chamber of the Foci. The Chamber of the Foci is where the Archmages work their most powerful magic, usually in the service of the Crown.

History

While some form of magical teaching has always existed in Elven culture, the Academy came into being to organize the process of teaching magic to all Elves, instead of leaving it up to trial and error as each individual experimented with their own budding powers. Sanctioned by the Crown, the Academy is the official dispensary of magical knowledge and training.
