Magic
Some beings haven the capacity to bend the world to their will, and do what ordinarily would be considered impossible. There are generally 4 means by which such beings gain their power.
Academic (Wizards): The wizards of the world seek to understand these forces on an academic level. The life of a wizard is one of constant learning. Dedicating even a century to the task of uncovering the great secrets of the world will only be enough to scratch the surface in one very narrow realm... if one is lucky. While they lack the ability to enforce their will upon the world that sorcerers have, they make up for that with the careful and precise application of the hidden energies found everywhere, through indirect tools and constructs. The knowledge of these tools is both carefully guarded and preserved. It is passed down master to pupil, each making their own, infinitesimal contributions to the scattered and fractured knowledgebase of magicians. Such academic power falls under the scope of Arcane magic
Conjurous (Warlocks): The power of a conjurer or summoner comes not from themselves, but entirely from the otherworldly... things they bring into this world, and bind to their will. Such a being might not come willingly when called, and even the slightest mistake could be disastrous. Such magic may be either Spiritual or Arcane in nature.
Intuitive (Sorcerers): Those who are blessed (or cursed) with magical intuition are known as sorcerers. Such entities do not trouble themselves with HOW their feats take place, they simply reshape the world as they see fit. They have no issues in immersing themselves in the energies around them, and using them directly. Such abilities usually manifest early in life, though fantastic events, or exposure to the raw magical forces of the universe might cause them to appear later, in creatures that survive. Such magic is Arcane in nature.
Religious (Paladins, Clerics, Bards): Those who commit themselves to a religious entity, cause, or art form to a near fanatical degree can find themselves granted with fantastical power by energies from the upper and outer planes that align with the archetype they are devoted to, in order to aid them in the service to their cause. Such power is given conditionally. The blessing entity's displeasure with a granted individuals power could result in their blessing being revoked. Such magic is Spiritual in nature.
