Southern Trese Forest

Hello, my name is Oaktawesen. I am the world that is being described and built for World Anvil. I am as alive as any other being existing on, above or below my surfaces. So, I do not wish to skew the word count too much; I will introduce myself once in this first entry.

Geography

The Southern region of the Trese forest follows the Alacrit River some ten leagues before ceding to rolling farmland of the city kingdom Delagrath.

Fauna & Flora

One of the most fertile locations I can describe is where I first reached out to Iona. The pond that she crouched beside when I touched her mind was just a few hundred paces from a path they call Calden’s Trail. The trail cuts through the south end of Trese Forest as it starts to blend into meadows and farmland. Trese Forest is a climax of bronze breeches, black oaks, golden birch with a smattering of red-tipped spruce and Calden’s Pine. The understory in this southern region is rich with willows, alders and silver hazel who nuts look like the silver disks people seem pass around. By the ponds and streams is an apothecary of herbs, rushes, shrubs and water plants if one knows what medicines they seek — all this abundant life is working in cyclic succession1 to maintain the fertility of my surface here. Great credit must go to the farmer and villagers of the region as they are of the old ways of giving back as much as they take. Some farmers cultivate vine melon, and forest yams they plant in early spring. Skilled wildcrafters of the villages harvest mushrooms, nuts and berries while disbursing viable compost to keep the forest healthy. The farmers and villages leave small parcels for the dryad and pixies whose dwindling present has alarmed some folk. It is they and other fey that helps nurture the rhizosphere that allows me to feel across my surfaces. Folks often leave a token of prayer to me, which is appreciated and unnecessary. What keeps it lush thus far it is its distance from the big city that dots my lands.   1 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyclic_succession
