Tremliff

Founded 143 EH

Tremliff is a special situation. Is it dangerous? Yes. More work than it should be to live there? Absolutely! But that is where the glow skimmers are. They make all this worth it.

- Glow skimmer hunter when asked if he would ever leave the basin

Set into the cliff face of the Roaming Ruin Basin, Tremliff is the only full settlement in the basin or surrounding area. The village is centered around and Order of the Discerning Gaze temple carved into the cliff, with open columns in place of a wall facing out toward the dayward pole. The design allows the temple to always be filled with whatever light is available in the sky. Prismem inlays in the columns help to direct and amplify the light, so that even during the brief dark bells the temple remains lit from within.

Unlike many of the larger cities, Tremliff is only home to one member from each of the six branches of the Order. With so few order members in the village, they all live within the temple together. The small number also means there is plenty of work for them to do and they usually stay on task when outside the temple. This has led to a more laidback and cooperative atmosphere in the village.

The temple is also the heart of the Day Wards network for the area. Lines of day ward lamps lead out from a small glowing fountain embedded in the temple's front steps. Rather than a full Daylight Fountain this fountain is a pool of condensed Radiance, focused into a prismem-lined basin. It cannot fuel the day ward network directly but provides a boost in radiance to make the process easier each day.

The network of day wards extends up to the rim of the basin, and down to the edges of the marsh. The highest lamp posts are tucked beneath the very edges of the basin's rim to shelter them from the storm. The lowest lamp posts form an uneven curve into the wetlands. Efforts were made during the early days after the establishment of the village to extend the day wards further.

However, while the order expected the day wards to dampen the natural motion of the area, they instead seemed to make the tremors and quakes worse. Each time new lamp posts are added, the motion in the basin increases. The last attempts to add several at once was followed by such intense quakes that part of the basin's rim collapsed inward onto the village. Homes and shops regularly need to be fixed or completely rebuilt in the basin due to the frequent motion of the ground, but that collapse was the worst to have ever happened.

Population

The population of Tremliff proper is predominantly human, with some myth-touched throughout the village. While the small Order presence lends itself to a more cooperative environment than most human settlements, many of the myth-touched in the area prefer to live on the outskirts of the village. Some have taken that even further and have carved their homes into the cliff face outside the borders of the village.
