Nightcaller Robes
Nightcallers are said to be nomadic, but their robes suggest something different. They seem customed to the area they are in. Are these performers more organized than we were led to believe?

ightcaller robes are both distinctive, and intentionally non-descript. The last thing a storyteller of forbidden knowledge needs is for those in power to know who they are. The next worst thing is an audience who doesn't know them. The most distinctive part of a Nightcaller's robe is the inner lining. When the robe is flared open, it is very easy to see the vibrant and beautiful colors. The cloth is a deep indigo with hints of purples and blues. The rich fabric is then embroidered with brilliant blue, green, and teal threads in patterns of circles and lines. For those familiar with them, the patterns are easy to identify as the symbols for the elements of Oabos.
Every Nightcaller's robe is a little different. Some of the elemental symbols might be different or more intentionally placed. Some robes include additional thread colors. What ties them all together is how those threads shine. Set against the dark fabric, and only revealed in areas without Radiance, the inner lining of the robe glows enough to light the performance provided by its owner.
Such brilliant colors break down easily with exposure to Radiance, so the beautiful robe lining is covered in the thick fabric of the outer robe. In the cities the cloth of the robe is typically stiffened to help keep the garment closed and the lining protected. To help with blending into the cities, the robes are typically matched in general tome and color to the village or city the Nightcaller is performing in.
Nightcallers performing in Chronwhorl have robes matched to the colors of the dense fog in the lower city. Nightcallers performing in the border villages wear robes of dark greens and greys to match the landscape at night. Each robe is carefully designed to only be noticed when the Nightcaller wants it to be.
Which begs the question, do all Nightcaller have a stash of robes in many colors or are they not as nomadic as the stories paint them to be?
