I

liastrad is a distant, nearly forgotten, world three galaxies away from Oabos. While not much is remembered about this ancient world of humans and eternal light, a deep longing for true light and connection still burns within the goddess' children. The Order of the Discerning Gaze teaches of the goddess and her world of liquid light. Stories are told to children during brief periods of darkness in the daylight region of Oabos. Children who have never known a world of eternal light, but long for a place the darkness never touches.

A Land of Liquid Light

The world of Iliastrad is old. The core of the world has grown into a goddess of light, who far pre-dates the human life populating her world. The old stories say that she became lonely in her glowing world and created humans in her image, to keep her company and care for the world. They are all her children. In return for their protection of the world, she protects and guides them as their living goddess.

Iliastrad is a world of eternal light. While the planet does circle a star, its light is far dimmer than the light emanating from the world itself. This is in part due to the core of the world being a goddess of light, and in part due to the rivers and oceans of liquid light which cover most of the world's surface. This liquid light shines with pure Radiance and does much to sustain human life on the planet.

Humans once lived on the various lands of Iliastrad but, as the liquid light grew to cover more and more of the world, they moved to suspended cities over the light. The cities were built on enormous arches with the cities themselves hanging suspended below the pinnacle of each archway. Many of these arches were built before the rising light levels reached far inland but now their ends extend deep into the light below.

The arches are tall enough that even after many years of rising light most of the cities still sit far above the light level. Some arches were not as carefully planned or they were not able to be built as tall. Cities on these smaller arches tend to sit right at the light level with their buildings brushing the light, and some partially submerged.

With buildings designed to be open or transparent on the bottom, and the world itself shining with pure Radiance, there is never any need to fear darkness. Darkness has no place or purchase on Iliastrad.
