Glimshock

You there! Care for a quick treat? Got a nice cool drink with a touch 'o glim!

Many of the pants natural to Oabos contain some level of oas within them, even in the daylight region. This touch of oas brings out the natural qualities of the plant and makes them more intense. In small quantities this is not an issue, and the effects fade rapidly in the body. Exposure to radiant-rich areas helps to speed up the fading process.

Effectiveness

Glimshock affects individuals to differing degrees and it does not seem to be fully based on previous usage. Two people who have never eaten food s which causes glimshock can react to it in very different ways. While most people have the same reaction, some do not feel the effect at all, and others feel it much more strongly.

The most common way this is seen is in spices like cloudgrass seed. The glimshock effect acts as a mild stimulant, while also bringing out a refreshing chill to the spice. The more infused with oas the spice is, the stronger the stimulant and chilling effects are. Some individuals can eat very fresh cloudgrass seed and not feel any rush or chilling sensation, while another might take a bite of the same dish could have a rush of energy and blow cool air from the chill in their mouth.

It is uncertain what causes this difference. The prevailing theory is that the difference comes down to the soul of a person. The theory states that the more world-light (oas) a person is exposed to or has within them, the more these effects can be felt. While it is a fun theory, there has been no confirmation that is how the effect works, and it is still being researched by the Academia.

To date, many of the spices which can cause glimshock are still accepted as treats and delicacies by the wealthy in most cities. Since most of the effectiveness is diminished when prepared and eaten in the light of radiance, there is little danger from occasional consumption.

Excessive Use

While glimshock in moderation is fine for most, excessive or repeated heavy use can be extremely dangerous. The small amounts of oas in the food can build up in the body and cause negative effects. Signs of overuse can manifest as a fogged mind and faulty memory, unexplained physical weakness, or personality changes. Why these effects show as physical, mental, and spiritual changes in different individuals is unknown. The more drastic the usage is, the more extreme the effect will be.

More underhanded members of the Nyross Information Guild are known to have leveraged information out of merchants by slowly raising the intensity of 'glim' in the foods offered when hosting them. While some were then slowly weaned back off it and kept a round as indebted informants, others were aggressively detoxed for study within the guild. It is believed that the Nyross Guild currently hoards more knowledge of the full impacts and usages of glimshock than the Academia.
