The Marad Federation
The Marad Federation was formed from the twenty-five clans of Marad, unified in defence against the expansionism of the then Vikikian Kingdom (now the Orstad Republic).
Since then, it has grown its economic and political influence through careful management of its cities and distributing its technology between clans
Marad is not a commonwealth like Kono’i - it is a single nation with a unified government. Each clan operates as an semi-autonomous region that has subscribed to a common core of ideals and laws, and is presided over by the Chief of the Federation, an unelected position which moves between clan-chiefs every three years.
Surrounded on the other three sides by monarchies who have, historically, viewed the Federation as a form on nascent Anarchy, Marad has built stronger links with the island nations of Lwakha and $movie-nation, inserting itself into trade routes through the former and feeding the rapid technological expansion of the latter.
Consequentially, Marad is a wealthy and technologically-forward nation. It professes no expansionist aspirations, and successive Chiefs of the Federation have condemned Anarchist action while continuing to demonstrate the peace-making potential of universal suffrage, making it a model for the democratic reformation of Vikikia following the death of its Queens.
Marad is best known for its textile industry, primarily wool but lately cotton, linen, and hemp cloth and finished clothing. It supplies thread to the Khafiyati lace-makers and several fashion houses have set up in the capital, $capital-city, to take advantage of both the textile mills, the trade routes, an increasingly affluent middle-class.
Maradir magical traditions are part of the Gwdaïdän branch: primarily charm-based witchcraft with little use of familiars, but with Hrimar runic influences in their sigil work. Maradir wizardry is antagonistic, using sacrifices and relics to summon, bind, and compel spirits. There is no primary religion, but Maradir has network of Necromancers’ colleges.
