Summercamp 2024 - prep
Week 1
Assignment 1: What kind of changes would fit in with your world's themes, genre, and other foundational points?
Industrial and political changes - the early 10th Century is a time of enormous social and political change. The aftermath of the Mage War has major repercussions and the ripples of those are felt across the world.Assignment 2: How many prompts will you go for during Summer Camp.
As always, the completionist in me will be aiming for diamond but, this year, the theme is "not burning out". Since I'm head-down on Steiner-Oavànson and the Sharktooth King, and have at least one holiday planned this month, I'll be happy to reach silver (alright, not 'happy' but that's what I'm trlling myself).Assignment 3: organize your categories and tags.
Summercamp 2024 articles will be using #summercamp24. Previous summercamps will be re-tagged to matchAssignment 4: Take a look at your meta, primer, and any other high-level document and update it according to the current state of your world.
DoneWeek 2
Assignment 1: Consider what kinds of refuge would fit in with your world's themes, genre, and other foundational points.
A library, a garden or public park, a writers' groupAssignment 2: Find a community—whether that’s our Discord server, Facebook Group, your RPG or friend group, or something else.
I struggle with Discord - I'm in several worldbuilding servers, and I continue to forget the entire app exists. The people in there are good people, but I don't seem to have the brain for it. I'll probably end up sharing my articles on tumblr instead.Assignment 3: Find ways to improve styling and layout in your world!
I'll be keeping structure in mind, though I won't be doing any CSS-styling next month. I already have image headers for various topics, and I'll continue to use those.Assignment 4: If you’re a CSS wizard, maybe take the time now to give it a polish!
->Week 3
Assignment 1: Consider what kind of beliefs would fit in with your world's themes, genre, and other foundational points.
I already have a couple of religions sketched out, and at least one urban legend - I could always use more, though! Since bits of Nùreht are undergoing a huge social and technological changes, there's a lot of people turning to faithes new and old, and plenty of scope for new beliefs to spring up and old beliefs to be reimagined, and for cults to predate the vulnerable and desperate.Assignment 2: Create a bank of inspirations! Quotes, music, description of experiences and shower thoughts, etc.
I already have a collections of quotes on my Inspiration board. Some music wouldn't be a bad addition, and the whole collection is in desperate need of more art (as much as I wish it could be mine, I'm not making the time to draw these days:( )Assignment 3: Find art and pictures that inspire you, and grab a map if you don't have one (and need one).
Some of the continent articles have proper maps but others, and country articles, still need some. Maybe this week I can make some time to break out Wonderdraft and brush up on at least the Bjerian map.Assignment 4: Check your inspirations again. Are they still relevant? Can you find any that better represent the current state of your project?
DoneWeek 4
Assignment 1:Consider what kind of decay would fit in with your world's themes, genre, and other foundational points.
The 5.920s and 5.930s are a time of massive change; not quite the beganning of a new era, but certain people see it as the start of a bright new future... for some. Some of those visionaries are willing to buy the future in (other people's ) blood, while those who have put down roots are less certain of change, and there are many - old empires, old gods, and those invested in old ways of thinking - that are not going to go quietly.Assignment 2: If you like special tea when you write, stock up for a month. Tidy your office, make a “do not disturb” sign, and think about any other last-minute strategies to optimize your writing space and time!
I have a bag of loose-leaf hibiscus tea that I've bee nsaving for a special, summery occasion. Why not now? To maintain my focus, I have a timer above my writing desk, the Forest app on my phone, and I'm going to spend the weekend cleaning and clearing my desk so I've gotAssignment 3: Review your world homepage to hook potential readers!
-> In progressAssignment 4: Take a look at your author profile and pillar articles on your world and polish them!
Author profile done! It seems a bit bare-bones: favourite films, favourite books - very reminiscent of DeviantArt pages. Is any of this actually of interest to people? (I'm still surprised that my worldbuilding is of interest, tbh). Well, it's there if you want it, but it's definiutely got the feel of something I'm going to forget to keep updated :/Remove these ads. Join the Worldbuilders Guild
Industrial and political change sounds intriguing! I'm looking forward to seeing what you create. I hope you have a great Summer Camp!
