Ambassador to Dream
The Dream realms contain multitude of creatures, both sapient and otherwise, spirits, and gods, and the disposition of the Dream-folk towards the denizens of Reality varies wildly. The Dream-folk of North Erwa are on the more aggressive end of the spectrum and it was with the ambition of changing these sour relations that the Tavelian parliament created the position of Ambassador to Dream in 5.922. One of very few roles in the world that is limited to a particular species, the Ambassador is required to be a mage, as it is believed that this ‘dual nationality’ will create a foundation of trust with the Dream-folk. The Ambassador currently advises the government at a Guild-master level, representing the interests of the gods and spirits of the city.
The first and current Ambassador is Raisså Pires, the Dream-born child of the Head Librarian of the National Archives. Pires assumed the post in the spring of 5.922 and their first task was planning a festival of Dream, intended to be an annual celebration of the contributions of the gods and spirits that reside within the Guiro.
The ambassador’s future plans involve a year-long expedition to Dream, scheduled to depart in the summer of 5.924. They hope to establish a dialogue that will stop Dream-folk predating on the citizens of Tavelia and lead to a greater understanding and collaboration between the denizens of Reality and Dream.
In 5.922, concurrent with the festival, planning began for the construction of a residence for an ambassador from Dream, should one be appointed following a successful expedition. The building has met with local resistance; while citizens of Guiro are fully accepting of “domesticated” spirits, such as those found in lamplighter shrines, they have raised concerns about inviting potential anthrophages within the city walls, and how this might interact with hospitality lore and the rules around inviting Dream-folk into a home.
