Celestial Bronze

The ancient ore born from the very heavens themselves, bestowed unto mortal hands to deliver them from evil

Mechanical Benefits

HP/inch 40 (weapons and armor normally made of steel that are made of Celestial Bronze have one-third more hit points than normal)   Hardness 20   Special: Weapons or armors fashioned from Celestial Bronze are always masterwork items as well; the masterwork cost is included in the prices given below. Celestial Bronze Weapons are immune to all rusting effects and do not rust naturally.
For Weapons: Weapons made of Celestial Bronze, forged from Ore originating from the slopes of the heavens, are said to be gifted to the mortal races with the gods' blessings to strike down even the most undefeatable foes. Such weapons always deal their full damage to targets that would reduce their damage, and always deal at least half damage to targets that would entirely negate it. Any creatures that have a rejuvenation ability or ability to return to life after death have the time required for them to do so multiplied by 100, and outsiders slain by such weapons are delivered a true and final death. Celestial Bronze Weapons also infuse their wielder with the bottomless might to slay the enemies of righteousness, and allow them to reroll an attack against a Magical Beast, Monstrous Humanoid, or Animal typed creature as a free action - once used, this ability cannot be used for 1d4 rounds.   However, as weapons made with divine blessings, Celestial Bronze weapons are incapable of harming Humanoid Creatures(passing harmless through them). Humanoid Creatures corrupted by outsider influence or who otherwise have deviated significantly from their original nature(Such as Diesel-Born) may still be harmed by Celestial Bronze weapons(GM Discretion).

For Armor: Armor made of Celestial Bronze, forged from Ore originating from the slopes of the heavens, infuses its wearer with the strength to stand against evil. Such Armor grants the wearer fast healing equal to 1/2 the armor's total AC bonus, and grants an identical bonus to all saves made vs Poison, Disease, Curse, and Fear Effects as well as Spells with the Evil Descriptor. These bonuses double in areas affected by a desecrate or unhallow or similar corrupted areas(GM Discretion). When these bonuses are doubled due to these conditions, the wearer may choose for the armor to radiate an inspiring golden light identical to a lantern.   Additionally, armor made of Celestial Bronze affords the wearer with protection against harmful environmental effects by surrounding them with the clean and pure environment of the heavens. This grants the wearer immunity to all airborne environmental hazards(Allowing them to see within them as well). However, in areas of extreme contamination, this protection lasts for a number of minutes equal to the bonus to saves above before it deactivates until the wearer exits such an area. In areas of airborne contamination created by magic, this duration is reduced to rounds instead of minutes.

Price

The Prices below include the inordinate effort required to find and acquire Celestial Bronze Ore - farmed exclusively on the shores of heavenly planes far beyond mortal realms and extremely rarely on the very highest mountain peaks guarded by celestial emissaries and/or Haaktura monastaries, Celestial Bronze is a very difficult material to acquire; hence the exorbitant cost. GM's are free to reduce these costs drastically if players find and acquire their own Celestial Bronze Ore over the course of their adventures.

Properties

Material Characteristics

The physical characteristics of Celestial Bronze are in almost every way identical to normal bronze - to the trained eye, however, Celestial Bronze is known to have lighter and almost faint blue coloration and often gives off a faint light when observed closely.

Geology & Geography

As the largest contributing factor to the metal's high price and extreme rarity, Celestial Bronze is mined almost exclusively from ore veins dotting the slopes of the mightiest and most expansive good-aligned divine planar realms of the Cosmos - though it has been known to be found in nearly impossible to reach Ore Veins located on the highest and most perilous of mortal mountaintops(Likely bestowed unto the mortal realm untold ages prior). As such, due to the extreme locales in which it is often found, Celestial Bronze is often a very difficult metal to source and acquire.

Origin & Source

Unlike normal copper which can be considered an ally of Copper and Tin, Celestial Bronze is sourced from Celestial Bronze Ore - a material which has a beautiful bronze-brown-gold coloration that is said to have inspired ancient tribal smiths to invent a metal to match its sharpness and power.

History & Usage

History

Though its name may lead some to make the conclusion that Celestial Bronze is named after the normally-occuring metallic alloy of Copper and Tin commonly found across Ruatiwanga and the rest of the Planet of Ea, in truth it was Celestial Bronze which came first - though it has been known by many different names since it was first bestowed unto the mortal world by ancient deities. Though the exact origins of Celestial Bronze are unknown - with each tribal culture across Ea claiming a different origin for the material involving their deities rather than others - the truth of the matter remains that Celestial Bronze is and has always been a material associated with the divine and the mortal champions they uplift. To many ancient and more primitive cultures, Celestial Bronze is the metal of the gods - and a powerful symbol of legends and heroes long past, who have all wielded the metal in their legendary quests to slay great evils or conquer ferocious villains in their monstrous lairs.   Ultimately, and rather ironically, the murkiness of the divine origins of Celestial Bronze and how it made its way to the material plane has caused it to become indelibly and inextricably intertwined with the destines and tales of ancient mortal heroes - it is rather unanimously a profound symbol of heroism, of monster-slaying, or valor and bravery, such that to most all the cultures who regularly interact with it the mere chance to wear such a metal is an immense honor. Unfortunately, many cultures have left it behind as their civilizations progressed - the metal's extreme rarity and innate limitations that make it useless against humanoid creatures(Said to be a divine mandate from the gods that first taught the secrets of the ore to their mortal followers long ago, that permeates the metal even to this day) meant that, while the metal was often the best at what it did, it was passed over more and more for more readily accessible materials such as Iron, Mithril, and Adamantine - all of which are much more useful for warring mortal races who sought to slaughter each other for tribal conflicts and increasingly advanced wars.

Discovery

Ultimately, the true origin and discovery of Celestial Bronze has been lost to time - each mortal tribe and civilization claiming a different origin for the ore involving their own deities - though the truth can be surmised to lie somewhere on the slopes of the eldest good-aligned planes of the cosmos, where ancient Angels and other Good-Aligned outsiders first found and smithed the material to serve as the basis for their Celestial Legions in their eternal fight against cosmic evil. From what is known, at some point in the history of the mortal races it was bestowed as a gift to ancient mortals as a gift for valorous and faithful service - leading to the formation of the first Celestial Bronze Ore veins on ancient mountaintops by blessing of ancient Deities.

Everyday use

Celestial Bronze, due to its extreme rarity, is a material used almost exclusively for attack and defense - and more specifically is often used only when the emergence of a truly mighty beast or monster calls for it.

Cultural Significance and Usage

Almost universally, Celestial Bronze is a weapon synonymous with heroes and the gods they serve - it is a metal given immense cultural and societal deference, and often carries with it cultural taboos for those who misuse it or those who wear it without having "earned it". To many, being chosen to wield a Celestial Bronze Weapon or don a suit of Celestial Bronze armor means being given an item that has existed in some form or fashion for hundreds if not thousands of years - and as such, since new items made of the material are so rare, each Celestial Bronze item is a relic with a great and storied history behind it.

Refinement

Though many believe the means of smelting Celestial Bronze Ore to be little different than that of its more mundane counterpart - Mortal Bronze - the truth is somewhat different, as the Ore seems to almost require the hand of an experienced forgemaster and smith who is not only touched by the gods, but a devout servant of them. Without this divine faith within its crafter, the material will almost without fail tear itself apart in the forging process - ruining the material irrevocably.

Manufacturing & Products

As with any metal, Celestial Bronze can be manufactured in a wide variety of items - though due to its rarity, is almost exclusively used in weapons and armor.

Reusability & Recycling

Though it rarely decays and resists the touch of rust, Celestial Bronze is a difficult material to reuse - requiring a highly devout and highly skilled craftsman to do so.

Distribution

Trade & Market

Though Celestial Bronze is a very rarely material, it is not so rare that it is not sold on open markets - though it is a specialty material that carries with it an exorbitant price tag, as it is typically "made to order" by those who have access to it for ludicrously high sums of money. Oftentimes, blacksmiths forge entire dynasties and legendary reputations off their skill at handling Celestial Bronze - and as such it is a material that is a luxury beyond compare.
