The Storyseed Bracelet
Wondrous item (bracelet), uncommon (starts as common), grows with the wearer
Created by a Story Weaver of the Bergfólk
Item Description (At Level 3) – Common Tier
A simple braided bracelet of woven metal-thread and basalt fibers. At first glance it appears plain, but a faint patterned line—mimicking the life-lines on Bergfólk skin—circles the band. Only a Story Weaver can create such an item, etching into it the first chapter of a person’s story. Level 3 – Storyseed (Common)
No attunement required
• The bracelet subtly warms when the wearer faces an important choice. • Once per long rest, the wearer may add +1 to an Insight or Perception check if the moment involves choosing a path, understanding intention, or sensing danger. (It helps you “feel the story.”)
This is flavourful, light, not strong — perfect for a level 3 item.
Level 5 – Storybranch (Uncommon)
Requires Attunement from this level onward
New etched lines appear on the bracelet as the wearer’s path expands.
• Once per long rest, the wearer may roll a d4 and add it to a failed ability check related to: – survival – intuition – investigation – knowledge of the world (“Your story corrects itself.”)
• The bracelet glows faintly when the wearer is being deceived or misled. No mechanical bonus, just a narrative cue.
Level 9 – Storyguide (Rare)
More patterns unfold, mimicking the life-lines on the wearer’s hands.
• Once per long rest, after rolling a saving throw but before knowing the result, the wearer may add +1d6. (This mirrors your theme of destiny intervening.)
• The wearer gains proficiency in Insight if they didn’t have it. If they do, they gain expertise in Insight.
Level 13 – Storywarden (Very Rare)
The bracelet now hums softly with resonance.
• Once per long rest, the wearer may cast Augury without components. The casting takes the form of the bracelet shifting patterns to reveal weal/woe.
• The first time each long rest the wearer drops to 0 HP, they drop to 1 HP instead. (“Your story is not yet done.”)
Level 17 – Storyweaver’s Path (Legendary)
The bracelet has become a mobile piece of the Himmelund resonance web.
• Once per week, the wearer may ask one question of Joy or the ancestral Weavers through the bracelet. The answer comes as a symbolic vision, riddle, or shifting pattern (DM’s choice). This is effectively a Commune-like question, but with a story-driven twist.
• Once per long rest, the wearer may reroll any single d20 roll. They must use the second result.
