Ghoya

A tidally locked planet in orbit of the red dwarf Rvostok, Ghoya is the closest extrasolar colony to Novus and the first founded in 1056 NE.

Geography

As the planet is tidally locked towards its parent star Rvostok, one side sits in blistering daylight, while the other lies in frigid darkness. A semi-habitable ring of twilight circles the planet, where temperatures are more forgiving. Despite this, Ghoya's thin atmosphere doesn't provide sufficient pressure for unprotected humans. This is because the planet's weak magnetic field is unable to fully protect against deadly stellar wind, which has long since stripped most of the atmosphere.

Ecosystem

Most of Ghoya is a desolate wasteland, too extreme to support life. In the temperate twilight band however, genetically engineered lichens and mosses have taken hold, courtesy of the Science Directorate. Though not a fully realized biosphere, life is beginning to colonize wherever it can.

Climate

The uninhabitable day and night sides of the planet are respectively scorched and frozen, but the semi-habitable twilight ring sits at a comfortable temperature for some life to survive.

Fauna & Flora

Genetic coding has led to the introduction of resilient lichens and mosses, which are able to withstand the stellar radiation from Rvostok. These simple orangisms, along with smaller bacteria, are the only samples of life to be found on the surface of Ghoya.

Natural Resources

Rare metals are found in abundance on Ghoya, thus ever-expanding quarries dig further and further into the planet. The bulk of extracted resources are eventually launched offworld, with a steady stream of Star Vessels ready to transport them throughout the Cooperative.
