Chapter 53

... the young man was at a loss. He had nowhere to turn, nowhere to go! Until he remembered the advice of his dear, dear mother. It rang in his head, "Never lose the family jewels, my most handsomest and goodiest of sons." He nodded to himself. Yes, yes that was the answer! It had to have been.   He raced home and found the crown, buried with his mother in her tomb. The diamond gleamed in the moonlight. He ran his hand over the stone and a sweet melody began to play. It was the most beautiful song he'd ever heard, like a bird and his mother's lullabies and the rush of water all at once. The world trembled at it and Barovia pulled free of the moorings holding it to the the rest of the universe. The song continued to play, now part of the young man. He was Barovia and Barovia was him. There was no longer a crown, just a young man.
