Politician
Hit Dice: 1d6
HP Bonus: Ld2+L*CON
TP: 300
With your mastery of the resonance, you can call upon the most powerful hex in all of magic: partisan politics. All enemies within a 120ft radius of you must pass a DC 35 CHA save, or be afflicted with Anger (IX) (3), as well as a -50% RES debuff to Psychic damage. On the enemy turn, you may choose the specific target of any attack directed at your allies.
You have decided to enter the field of politics, and seek to gain power within a governing body of your choice. The nature of this process will differ based on the political system you are involved in, be it a monarchy, an oligarchy, a democracy, or something else. Regardless of the system, your success as a politician will be defined by your approval amongst the various factions within your constituency, as well as your overall approval. Overall Approval will be measured as a percentage, and is used in determining the effectiveness of various abilities you possess. Factional Approval is also measured as a percentage, but is tracked based on the factions within your constituency. The approval or disapproval of different factions will also affect your abilities in myriad ways. Approval is increased (or decreased) based on the actions you perform in the world– and namely, how much money you invest towards different aspects of your campaign (or the policies you enact once you attain office).
Once you are elected to a position, the scope of your abilities will also be affected by the nature of the position. Political positions can be divided into a number of rough categories:
As a candidate or member of government, you are afforded a level of protection for the sake of the nation’s security. When entering combat, you can call upon your bodyguards, causing several NPCs to manifest and assist you in battle. The power and number of the bodyguards is dependent on your importance as a politician.
Not all governments will provide you with security simply by virtue of being a candidate or politician. In such cases, you will gain security dependent on how much you have invested in it yourself.
As a politician or candidate, you can send out the word that you’ll be giving a speech at a given location. This will attract a large number of your supporters to the area, potentially granting you buffs in combat– but also may attract your opponents, depending on your approval rating in the region.
Your Secret Service entourage now includes additional NPCs depending on your role within government. For instance, if you are a general of the military, you will receive reinforcements in the form of soldiers and potentially artillery or vehicles.
When you would have been KO’ed, if you have any of your bodyguards or supporters nearby, they will attempt to intercept the attack for you, being KO’ed in your stead but otherwise saving your life.
In battle, you can make a Persuasion roll to attempt to convince the enemy to support your candidacy (or at least not vote for your opponent). This can potentially turn certain enemies to your side, or get them to leave the battle.
While in office, your stock trades will always result in a minimum 5% return, and will never be negative.
After being elected to Head of State, you gain the ability to call upon specific NPCs you have assigned to different roles within government to assist you in battle. These NPCs will come with their own Secret Service entourages.
When you long rest in a location, you can call upon your Secret Service entourage to set up fortifications for you.
You are under the protection of a powerful thaumaturgical spell due to your role as Head of State. As a tactical action, or when you would normally be KO’ed, you can instead be automatically teleported to your safe room at the nation’s capital.
When fighting enemies that are part of a faction you have declared as an enemy of the state, you and your Secret Service entourage gain advantage on all rolls against them.
With the exception of plot-relevant incidents, potentially controversial actions you take while acting as part of the party and not in your official capacity as Head of State will be covered up by your administration, preventing them from affecting approval ratings.
Gain control of your nation’s most advanced and top-secret weapons, and the ability to deploy them at will.
You have the ability to completely control the media and finance sectors of your nation, allowing you to manipulate public opinion freely (though you still must officially allocate resources and set policy to enable this).
Your influence as a politician has reached cult status. When in the presence of people who approve of you, they will look upon you with a fanaticism akin to if you were a god. When in presence of people who disapprove of you, they will stay docile out of fear of your wrath. Note: some characters and factions will remain unaffected by this ability.
